HMP Birmingham’s education department have an exciting opportunity for an Additional Learning Support Practitioner to join their Milton Keynes College Offender Learning team.As an Additional Learning Support Practitioner, you will be responsible for identifying suitable support strategies to aid learning accordingly to learners learning difficulty and needs and will work closely with the learners tutor to plan for learning that is specific to the learner’s objectives and qualification requirements.You will have responsibility for conducting learning difficulty and disability screenings using appropriate screen tools. From this, you will use the screening results to identify and implement strategies for each learner that requires support.The role entails working closely with the learners subject tutor to devise appropriate support strategies for all learners. The ideal candidate will be someone who is able to inspire and assist learners throughout their academic and vocational studies. The requirement of this role is to work across the whole prison estate, on all wings where education is delivered. You will be a passionate, creative and empathetic towards our learners and be able to offer knowledge and guidance to our learners.Responsibilities include:• Skills assessment / screening and highlighting specific learning needs.• Provision of ALS within accredited learning programmes• Focused learning support for English and maths, leading to employability outcomes• Effective target setting to meet individual needs; including personal, social and educational targets• Inspirational learning support small group and one to one learning• An holistic approach to improving learner skills to support transition into a relevant career pathway• Providing appropriate support in formal assessment• Coordinate the allocation of support to ALS studentsLocation: HMP Birmingham Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per yearSalary: £18,015 - £21,522 per annum Closing Date: 1st May 2018 About HMP Birmingham…Milton Keynes College operate on three sites within HMP Birmingham, East Education, West Education, and G Wing Education, offering education to both mainstream and vulnerable prisoners.
