HMRC Solicitors Office & Legal Services (SOLS) provide legal services to the whole of HMRC. This includes: • the provision of legal advice to the Board, Ministers and Officers • the conduct of independent reviews of decisions made by HMRC which are requested by customers under legislative provisions • conducting tribunal and civil litigation on a full range of services • work on new legislation • drafting statutory instruments and other legal documents SOLS also provides technical accountancy and forensic services to HMRC, and is Head of the Compliance Accountants’ profession and engages with the external accountancy profession, as well as handling ministerial correspondence for HMRC SOLS is headed by the General Counsel and Solicitor and comprises four Directorates: Litigation, Business Tax, Personal Tax, Benefits & Credits and Legal Operations & Business Transformation. These are further broken down into teams each dealing with specific aspects of work and headed by a Team Leader. HMRC Solicitor’s Office merged with HMRC’s Appeal and Review units in April 2016 and formed the new department of Solicitor’s Office and Legal Services (SOLS). This is an exciting time to join SOLS as we develop and continuously improve our legal capability and function. HMRC SOLS is offering exciting opportunities through an Operational Delivery Officer Level 3 Apprenticeship. Job Description: These posts offer excellent professional and personal development opportunities. Successful applicants will join one of the largest Civil Service departments and work in a fast paced and dynamic legal environment where they will support HMRC’s Solicitors in providing high quality legal services. Solicitors Office contributed to providing over £4.5 billion in tax revenues last year. During your apprenticeship you will work in one of our business support or legal support teams. In each team, you will provide a very important service to customers and as such attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines are important. Our customers include our internal technical caseworkers, lawyers, accountants and senior managers. There is a strong team working ethos in all teams and a variety of interesting and challenging work. You will need to be self-motivated, flexible and prepared to work across a range of duties, these could include: • Registering, opening and closing of cases on case management systems • Gathering data and analysis • Liaising confidently with internal and external stakeholders • Communicating accurately in writing to internal or external contacts • Contacting customers by telephone and answering customer queries • Maintaining and updating various databases, spreadsheets and audit trails• Updating performance data and generating graphs for management information • Producing visual aids for conferences and meetings • Participating in rotas for fax and post cover • Photocopying and scanning documents • Room booking and organising meetings Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate or show potential that they will: • Work flexibly and as part of a team, working with and maintaining professional relationships with all colleagues and customers; • Develop through on the job opportunities and/or learning activities; • Actively take responsibility for their own areas of work and personal development  For further information and details of how to apply please visit the Civil Service Website reference number  View full job description
