ROYAL LIVERPOOL &BROADGREENUNIVERSITY HOSPITAL NHS TRUSTADVANCED PANCREATOBILIARY ENDOSCOPY FELLOWA new exciting post of an Advanced Pancreatobiliary Endoscopy Clinical Fellow for 12 months in the first instance has arisen at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital to join one of the most prestigious departments in the UK, containing the previous Liver National Clinical Director, a past Royal College of Physicians President, the current BSG president, 2 previous BSG presidents, previous JAG president and QA lead for JAG. The team consists of 17 Consultant Gastroenterologists (including 6 Consultant Endoscopists), 3 Nurse Consultants and 8 Specialist Nurses, 1 Endoscopy Fellow, 6 SpRs, 1 Lecturer, 3 Research Fellows and 6 F1/2 doctors.We are one of the largest endoscopy units in UK performing over 15,000 procedures per annum and the only national endoscopy training centre outside London as the Mersey School of Endoscopy. It is a Bowel Cancer Screening Centre and offers the full depth and breth of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This includes HALO, ERCP, EUS, advanced colonoscopy, Capsule, Stretta and POEMThe endoscopy unit is unique with 6 Consultant Endoscopists namely Dr Sanchoy Sarkar, Professor Tony Morris, Dr Paul O’Toole, Dr Neil Haslam, Dr Mina Gaglia, Dr Jayapal Ramesh and an Advanced Endoscopy Fellow. Further advanced endoscopy is supported by Dr Howard Smart, Professor Martin Lombard, and Dr Jonathan Evans. The department is committed to teaching with an a weekly afternoon session dedicated to departmental teaching (APEX; Audit, Pathology, Education and Xray MDT) and a weekly early morning Endoscopy TREATS (Endoscopy Training, Research, Education, Audit, Teaching &Service) meeting. We lead and contribute towards a wide research, teaching and audit programme which is innovative and at the forefront of Endoscopy with numerous multidisciplinary publications to which we hope the successful applicant will contribute to. The post is flexibly designed with devoted to enhance an individual’s research &training in endoscopy and help towards service commitments of the department. It will also support the registrars’ on-call rota.The New Royal Endoscopy Unit: The New Royal hospital building is expected to be open and functional in May/June 2018. The exciting new unit would have 9 endoscopy rooms with dedicated ERCP suite, EUS suite and two therapeutic endoscopy suites. Two dedicated independent recovery areas along with the Mersey School of Endoscopy are located on the same floor. The new unit would also boast a fully functional A-V system for clinical, teaching and training purposes.Endoscopy Training &Research: This post is dedicated to advanced pancreatobiliary training and can be tailored to individual candidate’s interest. We can offer training in a number of advanced endoscopic techniques including Diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, ERCP, EMR, HALO, POEM, Stretta and Capsule Endoscopy (for full range of procedures &services see job description). We also have a healthy endoscopy research/audit programme and we would hope that thesuccessful applicant will take these opportunities to strengthen their CV withpresentations in national and international meeting and publications. The applicantmay also want to be involved in the national training programmes through theMersey School of Endoscopy. There is also potential to work with other centres inthe region for collaborative research.Service Commitment: The post will be used flexibly with commitment to servicewhich includes performing independent diagnostic &basic therapeutic endoscopy,colonoscopy lists and clinics. It is therefore essential that the applicant meet the JAGcriteria for independence in both Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy. The endoscopy unitruns a 3 session day (8.30-12.30, 13.00-16.30, 17.00-20.30) and it is expected thatthe service commitment may include 1 evening session per week. In addition theFellow is likely to participate in 1 sub-specialty clinics (Upper GI, Hepatology or IBDlowerGI clinics) a week.On-call; The on-call Gastroenterology service is a 2 tier arrangement consisting ofboth a Registrars and Consultant rotas. The successful applicant will participate onthe registrar’s Gastroenterology rota which has NO general medicine commitment.The on-call will involve a non-resident 1:7 rota for the Gastroenterology RegistrarsAnticipated Start Date and term of Contract: Flexible start date in 2018 for 12months initially with possibility of extension for a further 12 months based on mutualconsent.This advert closes on Monday 30 Oct 2017 View full job description
