Working with a variety of animals from dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, birds & some rodents. Duties include, cleaning animal accommodation, feeding grooming, exercising. Providing enrichment. Dealing with members of the public. Completing daily paper work - assessment & daily observations of the animals. (n.b. a separate & additional allowance is paid for eachsleepover) Responsible to:Animal Centre Manager & Deputy Manager & Supervisor (b)Overall purpose of the jobProvide care for animals in the centre, establish good customer relations and maintain administration procedures in use. Will include reception work. (c)Specific responsibilities Health & SafetyProcedures as laid down in the health and safety manual are to be observed in all aspects of work. Observation & Reporting Assist with the inspection and or treatment of animals by veterinary surgeon, or other authorised person at the centre. Carry out checks on animals, including the taking of temperatures and inspection of eyes, ear, nose and throat for signs of infection or abnormality.  Report any abnormalities to the centre manager or deputy manager. Security Make sure the buildings and exercise areas are secure, check before work commences and when work finishes. Maintenance Report any faulty equipment, lighting, heating, ventilation, equipment etc. to the appropriate authority within the establishment. Periodic interior decoration of buildings.  Feeding & Watering Following instructions as laid down by management, prepare and provide food and water for all animals in the establishment. Cleaning & Hygiene Clean, disinfect and maintain to a standard of cleanliness set by management, animal accommodation, isolation and exercise areas; food preparation, laundry, storage, treatment and destruction facilities. Reception, offices stores, staff facilities including toilets and outside areas. General care Attend to the needs of individual animals, including: Handling and restraint Exercise Coat care / grooming Routine health checks including: monitoring of physical condition, patterns of behaviour, vaccinations, worming and flea control. Administration of first aid, treatments and medications as directed. Assist with humane destruction of animals, including carcass disposal.  Microchip Implantation The implanting of microchips and completion of microchip records. Record Keeping Cover reception as required. Maintain records, registers and statistics as required by management. Customer Care and Administration Attend to the needs of clients / customers / general public. Liaise with colleagues in other departments, RSPCA trustees and volunteers as directed. Deal with telephone enquiries. Assist with ordering, stock rotation, presentation, sales and stock-taking. Operation of the cash register and the safe receipt of money.  Maintenance of daily cash records as directed. Complete documentation relating to the acceptance and rehoming of animals. Use of a computer to assist in the keeping of records. Drive the centre vehicle on Branch business as directed by the centre manager or deputy manager. General Such other duties as directed from time to time by the centre manager or deputy manager. (n.b. this job description is a statement of the job as agreed at January, 2014.
