The job description will be reviewed regularly and may be subject to modification or amendment at any time, after consultation with the post holder. A.        Job PurposeTo assist the Senior Science Technician in providingan efficient and professional support service to the school science departmentTo provide general clerical and administrative support to the school To support the school’s aims and objectives and  to implement  school policies and proceduresTo contribute to the success of the School Improvement PlanTo participate in, and support, embedding Restorative Approaches across the schoolTo carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Headteacher Main Responsibilities Technical supportEnsure that the preparation rooms and labs are clean and well organised at all times. Under the direction of the Senior Science Technician, ensure daily preparation requirements are fully understood and metDevelop an understanding of the curriculum and what resources are requiredAssist the teaching staff in the setting up and running of practical sessions and demonstrations, including computer and audio visual equipment in accordance with teaching staff requestsClear up after lessons, including washing used glassware, cleaning benches and sinks, safe disposal of waste materials and returning materials and apparatus to their correct placeMaintain apparatus and equipment in a clean and safe conditionMaintain tidy organised storage and labelling of apparatus and equipmentRepair, as far as reasonably possible, any faulty or damaged equipmentMaintain a database of department resources, hold asset register and update inventoryUndertake resource management and stock control including chemicals Purchase teaching materials for lessons, such as seeds, household chemicals or animal partsUndertake requisitioning and receipt of supplies and equipment. Maintain stores of departmental textbooks and store any which are not in current useSupport with paperwork including the photocopying of teaching materials and examination papers by the print room as requestedMaintain display areas and change posters on a half-termly basis. Check and record condition of utilitiesAttend trips and visits where required OrganisationUndertake examination invigilation as directed by the Examinations OfficerUndertake routine financial administration e.g.  collect and record money for events or trips Whole school organisation, strategy and development1.        Be aware of andcomply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.2.        Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures in such a way as to support Fitzalan’s values and vision.3.        Support and attend School Open Evening4.        Attend and contribute to appropriate meetings, as guided by your line manager 5.        Be aware of and comply with core school policies and procedures 6.        Promote the safety and well-being of pupils, including participating in Restorative Approaches 7.        Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school8.        Undertake additional administrative duties as part of the School’s Administration Team and assume other duties which may reasonably be required or delegated by the Headteacher, from time to time Professional development1.        Participate in arrangements for the review of your own performance.2.        Participate in arrangements for your own further training and professional development and other support staff including induction.In addition, follow:?           School and LA Child protection and safeguarding procedures ?           Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions and to comply with all health and safety legislation as appropriate?           Participate actively in supporting the principles and practice of equality of opportunity as laid down in the organisation's Equal Opportunities Policy?           School and LA ICT policy?           Conditions or regulations issued by Cardiff Council relating to the post holder’s individual contract of employmentAccountable to: Senior Science Technician   This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring check (DBS) View full job description
