If you can think big, but managing the important details; if you like helping people, but influencing what happens; if you like working in a place that shapes the future, but find where you're currently work stifling and controlling, then we want to talk to you!The Assistant Commercial Manager is responsible for undertaking commercial and contractual matters in support of and under direction of their senior/commercial manager ensuring that the needs of Highways England are protected and compliance is adhered to.Day to day- Responsible for working on specific projects under leadership of senior/commercial manager providing commercial support to internal clients across a range of activities, aiding decision making on commercial efficiencies, provision of advice on contract administration, cost capture, analysis, performance, related intelligence and opportunities for performance improvement- Responsible for identifying complex problems trends and variances from data sets in order to undertake analysis and engage relevant stakeholders to review options and make decisions for moving forward.- Build effective relationships with suppliers and internal customers and develop thorough objectives for successful commercial delivery and sharing best practice in order to achieve a consistent approach for the organisation in line with the core values- Ensure the collection of robust, consistent and objective data, developing robust data capture processes in order to ensure that the correct information is stored, analysed and shared to support decision making- Take responsibility for own and teams work against agreed milestones and monitoring progress to keep to schedule whilst maintaining high levels of performance and done safely.- Provide and facilitate specialist advice from across the organisation on commercial issues including cost intelligence and the benefits in order to act as a centre of excellence for unit costs and the benefits that the organisation can glean from this- Coach and support project managers / sponsors and their teams on the application and interpretation of commercial issues in order to ensure that this is embedded across the organisation to ensure cost efficiencies and contractual compliance for Highways England- Mentoring and leadership of graduates and apprentices working within commercial and procurement plus the wider business on commercial mattersAbout you- Relevant technical qualification at degree level or equivalent- Completed a work graduate programme, apprenticeship or similar- Working towards member level of a professional organisation such as RICS, ICES, CIPS or equivalent- Knowledge and experience of performance monitoring and reporting- Knowledge of estimating and associated software- Knowledge and experience of interpreting contracts, desirably NEC forms of contractApplyingSo we can really get to know you and what you can offer please include a CV with your application.You're also encouraged to include a covering note explaining how you're a great match for us: so please tell us how your skills, experience and qualifications meet both the role, and Highways England, requirements.We're expecting this role to be popular, so we may need to close the advert early if response is strong.
