What might a typical day in this job look like?Edinburgh Global is based in the University of Edinburgh Central Area on Buccleuch Place and this is where the post will be based. However, Edinburgh Global does include the University’s overseas office network and there will be frequent contact with these offices as part of the role. The post will be based within a team of 4 people who form the Edinburgh Global Management Support Unit, however there will be regular opportunities for rotation within other units in Edinburgh Global. There will be a lead line-manager throughout the placement.What might a day in the job look like?A typical day would start at 9am. The daily tasks would include.• Contributing to the planning and running of a range of projects and visits.• Arranging room bookings and refreshments for meetings.• Updating contact lists and databases.• At reception, taking calls, forwarding and answering email queries.• General administration –filing, scanning etc. What will I learn?• You will develop your ‘soft skills’ (e.g. communication skills, working in an organisation, interpersonal skills, customer service, using your own initiative, teamwork, problem solving, etc.).• You will learn about administration in general and in Higher Education in particular. What qualifications or qualities are required?Essential• A willingness to learn and develop new skills. • Positive, reliable, consistent, focused and committed to the role. • Flexible in outlook and approach.• Excellent ability to follow instructions and pass on information in a clear manner, both written and verbal.• Basic numeracy.• An appreciation of customer service.• Working understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, e.g. Excel.• A willingness to participate in the University’s Modern Apprentice programme.
