     Job Title:   Care assistant Reports to: Proprietor,  Manager, Deputy Manager, Senior care staff Job Purpose ?         To work as part of a team with the other staff to meet the personal and physical  care needs of our residents in a way that respects their dignity and promotes independence in accordance with their person centred care plan?         To assist in general day to day activities in order to maintain the home.?         To carry out duties as designated by the person in charge?         To provide support to residents/relatives/ staff?         To accurately record residents information ?         To provide moving and handling support to residents Principal accountabilities and activities ?         To provide the highest standards of holistic care and attention for the residents?         To assist residents who need help with personal tasks , such as washing , dressing, bathing and toileting.?         To assist residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence.?         To care for residents who are temporarily sick and needing for example , minor dressings, bed nursing, assistance with feeding.?         To assist with palliative care when needed.?         To help provide essential physical and mental stimulation by participating in recreational and social activities with the residents individually, such as , reading , chatting, nail care or in a group, both in house and externally?         To assist in maintaining accurate records in accordance with registration and legal requirements?         To assist with cooking and providing  balanced and presentable meals as required by the duty rota?         To set tables and trays, prepare and serve meals, assist residents with feeding if needed, tidy and clear dinning room and kitchen.?         To inspect, launder and mend residents clothing?         To make and change beds, tidy rooms, do light cleaning , empty and disinfect commodes?         To perform such other duties as may be reasonably required.?         To carry out instructions by Management / Proprietors/Team leaders in an efficient and conscientious manner.?         To attend staff training, staff meetings and mandatory training.?         To report any accidents relating to staff and/or residents as per procedures.?         To comply with written and verbally agreed conditions of employment, e.g. hours of duty, uniform, time keeping etc...?         To be respectful and courteous with colleagues, relatives and other public and professional people, and so promoting company ethos?         To be aware of personal limitations, in regards to providing care, moving and handling-especially household items such as Hoovers, laundry baskets, kitchen items etc?         To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to health & safety and welfare policies and procedures.?         To assist with maintaining a clean , odour free environment - hovering , polishing , toilet cleaning and other cleaning tasks as required to promote a clean safe environment?         To assist with moving and handling tasks as required to enable the residents to lead a full and meaningful life.?         To report to a senior carer or management, any changes in a residents care or social needs, including changes that are covered by the Mental Capacity Act.?         To encourage our residents to be as independent as possible?         Duty to whistle-blow if witness bad practice or harm to a resident within the care home ( see policy in policies and procedures folder )?         To be responsible for ensuring that infection control procedures are followed and adhered to. ?         To be responsible for safe administration of medication in accordance with company policy, when provided with the appropriate training to do so.   Staff are to adhere to:?                         Procedures for Cleaning Spillage’s?                         adhere to moving and handling procedures?                         maintain awareness for COSHH procedures?                         follow policy and procedures for the Handling and disposal of Clinical waste?                         Maintain and implement Health and Safety procedures in order to safeguard themselves, the residents and visitors to the home.?                         Maintain awareness of any Risk Assessments currently in use within the service and to provide care for the residents within these guidelines.  Ensure Effective Hand Washing ?                         Hand washing is the single most important method of preventing the spread of infection. All staff must ensure that their hands are thoroughly washed and dried.1.Before handling foodstuffs2.After using the toilet3.Between seeing each service user even when minor direct contact is involved Qualifications, training and experience ?        To be self motivated?         To be organised?         To be flexible and caring?         To be sensitive to the needs of others and to the sick / infirm?         To be an active team player, but also able to work from own initiative?         To be able to communicate clearly ?         To work towards an accredited NVQ qualification as agreed by the Home’s Manager and to maintain an up to date knowledge of mandatory training- first aid, moving & handling.
