Marie Curie  Job DescriptionJob title:Catering AssistantDepartment:Facilities LocationMarie Curie Hospice,Belfast Reports to:Head Chef Accountable toFacilities ManagerJob Purpose/SummaryTo assist in the daily provision of all catering services at the Marie Curie Hospice Belfast. To work as a vital team member, contributing to the smooth running of the department. Key relationships - Accountabilities (Duties & Responsibilities) To have knowledge of and practice all regulations of food hygiene (as required in the Food Safety Manual. Wash and peel vegetables. Prepare and cook simple meals and beverages under the direction of the Head Chef To prepare and clear dining room/rest room, before/after staff meals/beverage breaks. Serve customers/staff in the staff or appointed public dining area/s. To ensure daily supplies of tea, coffee, sugar and milk are replenished in patients’ pantry/visitors bay/education pantry, and re-stock with clean crockery. To deliver food trolleys to the In Patient and Day Therapy Unit as required Take cash and payment for meals or other purchases, as applicable. To prepare education/discussion rooms for meetings/functions as instructed, including the delivery/collection of food and beverages. Assist with service of meals/buffets for functions/meetings/ occasional visits. Assist with basic food preparation, including sandwiches and buffets. Accept deliveries and store in correct location. General cleaning and washing up duties, in accordance with the cleaning schedule. Operate cleaning and dishwashing equipment when required. To ensure security at the Hospice and equipment. Duties will be flexible on a rota basis - late evening shifts will sometimes be required to cover functions/meetings. To apply all food handling procedures as set out in the MCCC food hygiene policy and current Food Hygiene Legislation. To safely use (as per guidelines) appropriate equipment and to be responsible for cleaning such items after use and as necessary(i.e. slicer/vegetable peeling machine). To report all accidents, mishaps or other problems to the Head Chef, or in his/her absence, to the Facilities Manager. To be aware of their responsibilities towards health and safety and to adhere to the fire regulations. Assist with any other reasonable task as requested by a supervisor or manager, which may involve working within the other areas of the facilities department (i.e. housekeeping/portering). Communication Greet all visitors and answer the telephone in a friendly, courteous and efficient manner In accordance with Marie Curie Policy, staff are required to maintain the confidentiality of personal information regarding staff, volunteers, patients, their families and friends at all times. Education and TrainingAttend, and participate in training sessions and staff meetings. Training in aspects of Housekeeper duties to cover for absences. All employees are required to be aware of their responsibilities towards Health and Safety, to adhere to Fire Regulations and to undertake mandatory training as required           General In addition to the specific duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description, all Marie Curie employees should be aware of their specific responsibilities towards the following:Marie Curie is committed to encouraging volunteering throughout the organisation and as such the post holder will be expected to support and respect volunteers, and may be asked to work alongside or supervise a volunteer as part of their role whilst working at Marie Curie.Marie Curie operates a no-smoking policy.
