Clinical Practice Lead

Company: NHS Jobs

Location: NEW Topaz Ward, Newham Centre for Mental Health, UK

Date Posted:Nov 18, 2017

Newham is the most ethnically diverse area of London with the highest proportion of young people of any London borough. Home of the Olympic Park, Newham is a vibrant place to work and live, but with considerable social deprivation. Newham Centre for Mental Health provides care and treatment to adults with serious mental health problems across 7 inpatient wards, and is also the location of the Coborn Unit, a specialist provider of child and adolescent mental health care, and the Unit for Social and Community Psychiatry, a WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Services Development. Our ambition is to be a centre of excellence for recovery-focused care. We are rated as Outstanding by the CQC and all our wards are rated as Excellent by AIMS. We have several vacancies on our adult wards for Clinical Practice Leads. As a Clinical Practice Lead your role will be to provide leadership and management in partnership with the ClinicalNurse Manager and the Matron to innovate and inspire change and excellence across all aspects of the care environment. You will be a highly motivated and dynamic practitioner who is able to communicate and demonstrate high quality therapeutic interventions with adults who are experiencing acute mental health problems, with knowledge of the physical health issues related to this patient group, reflected in excellent documentation and communication skills. You will have the ability to lead others under pressure and develop and enhance the abilities of other staff through coaching, role modelling, and supervision. Your focus will be on the recovery of patients and improving the patient and staff experience. You will be part of the management team on the ward, with shared and delegated responsibility for clinical governance: ensuring that systems are operationalised to supervise staff, audit documentation and Mental Health Actcompliance, and that care and treatment are safe and effective at all times. You will ensure the promotion of a therapeutic environment on the ward, with meaningful engagement and one to one time spent with patients, groups and daytime activities, and clean and comfortable amenities. You will develop effective lines of communication with members of the wider multidisciplinary team and other agencies, working with the consultant teams to effectively manage bed occupancy and discharge planning, and maintain task-focus, effective team work and group cohesion in the context of, at times, a highly unpredictable working day. You will need to be highly resilient and resourceful, able to problem-solve and think on your feet, experienced in recognising the signs of stress in self and others, taking appropriate action to manage such stress, keeping yourself and the team effective and focused at all times. The role will also include carryingout the role of Duty Senior Nurse on a rota basis, where you will have responsibility for providing leadership and management across the whole unit.
