This post will encompass a minimum of 7 teaching sessions per week, with the opportunity for further clinical training in the sub-specialties of the appointed trainee, depending on the interview outcome. Any additional on-call requests with these posts must not affect the teaching/clinical commitments required to fulfil the medical and clinical education teaching requirements. The Trust is in a unique position, in that it supports both the Tees and Wear Base Units within Health Education North East, with responsibility for delivering high quality teaching to medical students in their clinical training in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th years. The teaching faculty also includes other clinical teaching fellows, and nurse teachers working across the Trust, who support both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with particular reference to foundation training. The posts are suitable for doctors who have already undergone previous training in a particular specialty, or as minimum requirement, those who have completed their Foundation Programme, but the post-holder must be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver the generic skills teaching curriculum and support all undergraduate teaching in a number of disciplines. The posts are not approved for specialty training, although individuals on a specialty training programme may be able to request approval for the post via the appropriate Regional Specialty Training Committee. Previous post-holders with training numbers have been successful in gaining approval within the North East. You must have full registration with the General Medical Council and either possess the appropriate qualifications in the person specification or be working towards completing this qualification within the current academic year before August 18. Formal training in teaching/education is not essential, however the successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a history of enthusiasm to teach and an ability to identify and deliver teaching sessions to a wide group of students/doctors. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake in-house/regional training to develop this area. Standard study leave rules which apply to specialty trainees, will also apply to these posts. Applicants will be expected to undertake either the Certificate or Diploma in Medical Education starting in September 18, as places have already been reserved via the University of Newcastle for this qualification, and course fees are supported within the Trust up to the value of £2000. In accordance with good practice guidelines from the Criminal Records Bureau, the successful candidate will be required to submit an application for Enhanced Disclosure.
