We are continuing to invest significantly in medical, nursing and support staffing levels, recognising the considerable growth in activity and changing needs of the patients we treat.We are committed to investing further in the facilities and estates that support the delivery of our Emergency services on all sites. The posts offer a unique opportunity for successful applicants to be actively engaged in service design and innovation.We have ambitions to realise a 20 Consultant rota to deliver Emergency Medicine across our two A&E’s at the William Harvey Hospital (WHH) in Ashford and the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM) in Margate, as part of the Trust’s Improvement Journey and emerging Clinical Strategy over the next 3-5 years. A 14 doctor middle grade rota has also been developed, which will have junior and senior speciality doctors. This will provide a consistent level of cover across seven days with improved handover and cover in the evenings and overnight.Our ethos is one team/two sites. The current rota provides a 7 day working rota in the ED’s with extended working days up until 22:00 Monday to Friday and eight hours of consultant cover at Weekends, currently on a 1:7rota.The A&E unit at the William Harvey Hospital is an accredited Trauma Unit, is one of the highest performing units in the UK (TARN data), and part of the South East London, Kent and Medway (SELKaM) Trauma Network. Both the QEQM and WHH use the SELKaM Trauma Unit protocols and have newly refurbished Resuscitation Rooms which enable continuity for clinicians to work safely between sites.This is a highly motivated and focused department, which prides itself on delivering the highest standards of safe patient care. Clinical governance is central to all that we do; ensuring that patient care, safety and quality are the highest priority.Successful candidates will have relevant experience within an Emergency Medicine setting and have ATLS, APLS and ALS qualifications as well as FRCEM. Candidates who would be interested in a shared appointment with ITU or Paediatrics would also be welcome.If you are a dynamic and innovative consultant who can play your part in shaping our reputation for excellence in emergency medicine, we want you on our team. You will be encouraged to develop your own interests in line with the department’s requirements and the current range of activitiesWe are also able to offer a development programme for SAS grade doctors who are looking to progress to Consultant and gain entry onto the GMC Specialty Register with a CESR application. Successful candidates would have access to teaching, mentorship and rotation to adjacent specialties to the Emergency Medicine Service, and be supported in undertaking FRCEM/MRCEM through the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.It was also recently announced that a new medical school, the first in the county, will be opening in two years.
