We are playing a leading role in new nuclear build in the UK to secure a bright future for the combined business and its employees. Vacancy Overview  Nature and Scope Operating Environment  Nuclear New Build Generation Company (NNB) is in the process of establishing the detailed design of two new nuclear power stations for the UK. To support the licensing and operation of these stations, a competent Technical Managemnt & Acceptance (TMA)  function is required within NNB to understand the plant design, provide design assurance and to support the development of robust, compliant nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety cases.   The TMA I&C Branch covers the I&C systems in the Nuclear Island, Conventional Island and Balance of Plant area, and include:* Safety I&C Systems* Process I&C Systems* Smart Devices* Process Instrumentation* Nucleonic, Radiological and Specialist Instrumentation* Fire Detection and Alarm SystemsThe C&I Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of their allocated I&C systems or instrumentation, including an understanding of the requirements placed on I&C systems and components which are important to nuclear, cyber-security, environmental safety and also commercial operation to ensure these are not compromised during any phase of the station’s lifecycle.   The C&I Engineer will liaise primarily with the NNB Programmes, NNB Design Authority (DA) Safety Case, NNB Pre-Operations and the designers in the Responsible Designer in EDF SA, and the supply chain (for example Framatome) to ensure that safety case and engineering requirements are established, adequately justified and correctly appear in the plant design. In addition, the C&I Engineer will be involved with meetings with regulatory bodies, in particular the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).Framework & Boundaries  The C&I Engineer will be expected to work as part of the TMA I&C Branch using their own initiative to identify and resolve significant process and technical issues which arise during the course of this rapidly developing project.   For their allocated I&C systems/instrumenation, the C&I Engineer will be expected to understand and contribute to the nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety cases, and review and accept designs against the nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety case requirements to meet critical project milestones. Principal Accountabilities * Understand the design and operational aspects of I&C systems and instrumentation, and the role which these have within the nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety cases* Support the development of the nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety cases* Review deliverables for conformity with the nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety cases* Provide input to, and approval of, non-conformances and design changes as the plant design evolves* Work effectively with minimal supervision to ensure internal customer’s needs are met.* Maintain a strong relationship with the designers (in particular the Responsible Designer in EDF SA and Framatome) and regulatory bodies (in particular the ONR)* Co-ordinate support from other external organisations Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience Knowledge & SkillsEssential* Knowledge of nuclear sector standards applicable to the life-cycle and development of Programmable Electronic Systems and High Integrity Software Based I&C Systems (for example BS EN 61513, BS EN 60880, BS EN 62138, BS EN 60987 and BS EN 61508)* Knowledge of the cyber-security standards/methodologies applicable to Programmable Electronic Systems and High Integrity Software Based Systems* Understanding of the requirements for the development of modern nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety cases (including ‘Production Excellence’ and ‘Independent Confidence Building Measures’ aspects)* Knowledge of ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable)* Understanding of the Quality Assurance requirements in a highly regulated environment* Good project management, organisational and coordination skills* Decision making and escalation ability for resolution of issues* Knowledge of budget and schedule management* Overall project commercial awareness* Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements* Good communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholder Desirable* The ability to speak French is desired but not essential for this roleQualification & Experience EssentialThe C&I Engineer shall be able to demonstrate some or all of the following:* Degree or higher degree in relevant discipline* Registered member of a relevant professional institute or qualifications and experience suitable to lead to membership* Experience in highly regulated environment e.g. nuclear, aerospace, petrochemical etc.* Experience of working in the design/substantation/safety justification in some or all of the following fields: High Integrity Safety I&C Systems and Control I&C Systems* Safety Instrumented SystemsExperience in liaising with the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) or other regulatory bodyDemonstrable excellent organisational skillsExperience in decision making capability for resolution of nuclear, cyber-security and environmental safety case issuesProfil : Nuclear New Build Generation Company (NNB) is in the process of establishing the detailed design of two new nuclear power stations for the UK.
