If required, your employer will pay for this.  A mature, experienced Personal Assistant is required for aperceptive, kindly, elderly female in the Wirksworth area, to help the client achieve those day-to-day living activities which are the priorities for that day.   The experience could be in a family or a work situation.The Personal Assistant will take care that things are done in the way the client would like them to be done. (The present, long-term, Personal Assistant is to retire shortly, being of pensionable age.) The contract is initially for:a total of about 12 weeks a year usually in school holidays, six hours per each of those 12 weeks, usually to be worked on mornings of Monday, Wednesday and Friday.   The weeks, days, times and hours areto be mutually agreed at appointment, and confirmed weekly, a week in advance. Sometimes an hour or two extra may be needed,for instance, to support the client at meetings, often on Tuesday afternoons.The hours may vary according to the client’s needs. You will need to be able to work flexibly. A car driver with own car would be useful, in which case you will need to have car insurance cover that includes use for business. This is a non-smoking household; the client is sensitive to the smell of smoke. £10.50 per hour weekdays and weekends.  £21 per hour for bank holidays.   Preference will be given to early applications.   Local candidates are preferred. If you undertake a DBS check, the client may pay for this.You will beexpectedto:workcloselywiththe client andfamilytomeettheagreedoutcomescurrent at the time. Examples of activities the client may ask for supportinclude:Listening carefully to learn what the client’s priorities are for that dayPersonal care such as: assisting with showering as requiredadministering eye dropsoccasionally inserting hearing aidavoiding conversation when the client is walking, or needing to sitLight domestic cleaning such as vacuuming, dusting, mopping floors, household ironing, watering houseplants, watering plants in pots outside, changing torch batteriesMaking the bed, and changing the sheetsMaking drinks and snacksShoppingEscorting, and arranging appropriate seating for, the client to meetingsBeing the eyes and ears for the client at meetings Not all the activities will be started at once! The role could develop as the priorities and circumstances of the client change, including additional aspects of personal care.  General information Personal Qualities.The personal assistant must be: Patient and tolerant of other’s difficultiesTrustworthyReliable and responsibleDiscrete and respect the importance of confidentialityConscientiousResponsive to instructionsAble to speak consistently clearly and slowly; happy to repeat words or phrases when necessaryCapable of taking a back seatSensitive and observant enough to know when their assistance is neededAble to recognise the boundaries of the role and to remain withinFlexible and adaptableResponsive and respectful of the client’s emotional needsSelf-employed A quiet, sympathetic approach to events – and to life in general - would be an advantage.  Personal Assistant’s Responsibilities.Arrive at the mutually agreed time, ready to work. Notify the client if you are going to be arriving late when possible.  Give advance notice to both the client and the client’s nominated daughter, of days and times of work, holiday leave and, whenever possible, sick leave. Punctuality and reliability are essential.Respect the lifestyle, routine and opinions of the person with whom you work. Do not interfere or impose your own judgments and opinions unless requested to do so. Remember, your job is to enable the client to lead an independent lifestyle of theirchoosing. Respect the possessions and home of the client; your ‘workplace’ is their home. Use of the telephone, heating etcis at the client’s discretion.Submit accurate, monthly invoices within the first week of the subsequent calendar month. Invoices are to list the times when the hours have been worked.Avoid using your own mobile phone during working hours with the client.If problems or queries arise, it is important to discuss and resolve them immediately with the client and, if appropriate, with their family or representatives. It is important to be as open in your communication as possible.Since you will have access to confidential information concerning all aspects of the client’s life, it is important that you respect the privacy of the client you are working with. You should be discreet and professional at all times. Learning the Job.The client is the person best qualified to know what their needs are and how they can be best assisted. The best way to learn the tasks involved is by listening to the client’s requests, by working with the client’s family orrepresentativesand asking for guidance when necessary.
