JOB DESCRIPTIONDEPUTY MANAGERST PIUS X PREP SCHOOL and OAK HOUSE NURSERY   MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:  To share the responsibility for the smooth and effective running of the Nursery with the Manager, adhering to current guidelines and legislation.  MAIN DUTIES: The role of the Deputy Manager is to support and deputise for  the Nursery Manager in all Nursery matters in the following areas:        LEADERSHIP?        To manage the Nursery in the absence of the Manager.?        To provide strong leadership for the Nursery staff team.?        To maintain a professional manner and be a good role model to staff at all times.?        To maintain a high level of loyalty and motivation at all times.?        To work as part of the Nursery staff team and liaise between the staff and Manager.?        To bring to the Manager staff concerns, grievances etc.?        To assist the Manager with administrative duties associated with the management of the nursery, such as maintaining records on children and families, ordering equipment, maintaining inventories and keeping personnel records.?        To manage the provision of the nursery ensuring that children, parents and the staff team work. together to provide high quality childcare alongside the Nursery Manager.?        To assist with the Manager in ensuring the day-to-day running of the nursery, ensuring compliance with registration and legislative requirements at all times.?        To manage own time to complete tasks effectively, prioritising workload.?        To make recommendations for the future development and long-term vision of the nursery and to contribute and participate in the development of new ideas.?        To keep up-to-date on current childcare issues.?        To establish and maintain effective working relationships in the staff team, through regular staff meetings, team meetings, training sessions and open and honest communication alongside the Nursery Manager. STAFF?        To know and understand the organisation and the roles of all staff.   ?        To support Nursery staff at all times.?        To assist staff in carrying out observations and evaluations of children’s activities.?        To maintain personal contact with parents through meetings, parents evenings, open days and informal conversations.?        To be professional, polite and positive in all verbal and non-verbal interactions with staff, parents and children at all time. ?        To be responsible for the supervision of students, identifying their learning needs and advise key-staff of these.?        To share the responsibility for staff training and development within the Nursery.?        To carry out supervision chats with the Nursery Manager and follow up the mentoring process in accordance with Oak House Nursery Policy.?        To carry out the induction process, alongside the Nursery Manager, for new staff as determined by Oak House Nursery Policy.?        To assist the staff in facilitating classroom planning meetings.?        To assist the Nursery Manager in ensuring all staff rotas are accurate, including reporting of absence through sickness and holidays.?        To carry out the efficient and organised administration of all Nursery matters.?        To assist in the appointment of new staff in accordance with the school’s Safer Recruitment Policy.?        To establish, develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with relevant Local Authority Departments, regulatory bodies and other agencies.?        To help to ensure that all documentation relating to outside agencies is of a high standard and to communicate well with these agencies.?        To monitor and assess the quality of provision ensuring that policies and procedures, best practice and standards are maintained.?        To communicate effectively with all members of staff and be professional at all times.?        To implement and maintain the company’s Equality policy ensuring that children, parents and the staff are valued and practice is positive and non-discriminatory.?        Support the development of good practice with regards to special needs and inclusion. EYFS?        To ensure that the nursery consistently meets the requirements set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage to high standard.?        To have asound knowledge of Early Years Statutory framework and legislation and to assist in overseeing the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum to all children and staff in the Nursery.?        To conduct peer observations and classroom observations in the Nursery setting and support the staff to deliver their best practice.?        To ensure the Key persons system is effected by all practitioners as required.?        To prepare for the EYFS staff meetings with the Manager.?        To ensure best practice for every child in the setting at all times, ensuring all children have access to resources, equipment, activities and learning opportunities to reach their full development.?        Work with the nursery staff in leading the team in the planning and development of an inspiring and creative environment.?        To agree and set the EYFS development plan and monitor the achievement of progress against targets.?        To be aware of children with SEN needs in the Nursery and follow the Oak House Nursery SEN policy.       ?        To assist the Manager in ensuring that the children and parents receive the highest possible standards of childcare.  ?        To share in the task of welcoming prospective families and new children and to liaise with staff to ensure the children settle into Nursery life easily ?        To show visitors around the Nursery and school as and when required.?        To assist in ensuring that the Nursery is compliant with Inspection standards for ISI.?        To be conversant with Oak House Nursery, Health and Safety policy and to assist in ensuring the health and safety of staff and children and to report concerns to the Manager.?        To attend management meetings, parent meetings and Nursery events, including social events, as required even when these fall outside hours.?        To represent the Nursery at functions, meetings and events as required.?        To act in the best interests of the School and Nursery at all times.?        To undertake any other duties required by the Manager to fulfil the aims of the Nursery.?        To assist the Manager in taking responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people in School in line with the schools Safeguarding Policy 2016.?        To ensure the nursery website and social media pages are updated regularly.   Person Specifications QualificationsEssentialDesirableA minimum Early Years Childcare and Education qualification equivalent of NVQ Level 3 or above.X A current Paediatric First Aid Certificate XA current Food Hygiene certificate XA current Level 2 Safeguarding certificate.  XKnowledge & Experience  Four years post qualifying experience in a private day care setting with children aged 0 – 5 XExperience of working in line with the EYFS framework and Welfare RequirementsX Experience of working with children with additional needs and liaising outside agencies. X Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS statutory framework and children’s learning and development.X Experienced in ISI (Independent School’s Inspectorate) and/or OFSTED inspections and requirements X Knowledge and understanding of equal opportunitiesX Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection in the EYFS setting.X Ability to communicate effectively with staff and parents.X An ability to implement policies and procedures.X The ability to play a key role in the supervision of staff.X The ability to support the Manager and take responsibility in her absence.X Assist in the implementation of the Early Years
