We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Nurses to join our team at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.After a recent skill mix review we have band 6 positions available within all of our busy and friendly clinical areas.  We can offer full and part time hours and rotational posts would be considered.The NOC offers the perfect opportunity to enhance and build on your existing skills developed at band 5 and to take the next step in your nursing career.  The successful applicant will be a senior member of the nursing team and will act as a role model to junior staff and clinical leader.  You will assist in the day to day operational management of the ward, ensuring effective flow of patients. You will also lead a small team of nurses and nursing assistants with the support of the ward sister; ensuring your staff receive an annual appraisal, and guidance in their professional development.In return we can provide support, guidance and excellent professional development opportunities for you.  Our Ward Sisters and Practice Development Team will work with you to reach your development goals.  You will complete our Band 6 Development Course and will be encouraged to apply for our newly developed accredited PG Cert in Orthopaedic Practice.  We believe in nurturing our staff and we will see you as our Ward Sister / Charge Nurses of the future – we will support and encourage to reach your full potential.The following wards are based at the NOC:Bone Infection Unit (BIU) BIU is the only specialist unit of its kind in the UK caring for patients with bone and soft tissue infections.  Many of our patients require complex major reconstructive surgery.  Our patients are often transferred from hospitals all over the UK.  This is a busy and fast paced unit - it is hard work but rewarding and there is great team work.  No two days are the same and there is a lot to learn.Orthopaedic Inpatient Ward E and Ward FThese are busy surgical wards and provide excellent opportunities for developing surgical nursing skills such as wound care, IVs, PCAs and epidural management.  We care for patients following a wide range of musculoskeletal procedures including surgery for bone and soft tissue tumours, spinal surgery and joint replacements. Ward E also specialise in the care of complex Rheumatic conditions.Orthopaedic Short Stay Unit (OSSU)This is a new unit which opened in October 2016.  This is a high turnover area with patients having surgery for joint replacements, spinal surgery such as decompressions and shoulder surgeries such as rotator cuff repairs.  Many of our patients follow enhanced recovery pathways and expect to stay in hospital for 1 to 2 days.Recovery / HDUThis unit is open Monday – Saturday, and is located within the NOC Theatres.  There are 10 recovery beds and 6 high dependency beds.  The recovery area cares for patients immediately post-surgery and HDU is reserved for those patients who require more than 2 hours of close monitoring following their surgery. Closing Date - 07-05-18This advert closes on Monday 7 May 2018 View full job description
