Director Student Experience
JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Director Student Experience Hours: 37 per week (Established Post) Salary: £60,000 Responsible To: Group Deputy Principal and Deputy Chief Executive Job Purpose: To act asEast Kent Colleges Group’s (EKCG) championforthestudentexperienceincludingresponsibilityfor all student related policiesandprocedures. To be the senior designated lead for safeguardingandPREVENTand to lead on ensuringthattheneedsofall studentsincludinghighneeds, LAC/YCLare met.. __________________ Key Duties and Responsibilities: To be responsible for the development of the College’s student involvement strategies; To be responsible for ensuring the effective deployment of learner support funds ensuring maximum benefit to those learners in most need; To oversee the development and implementation of the EKCGs PREVENT agenda ensuring there is an annual programme of PREVENT awareness activities; To have strategic oversight of EKCGs approach to independent advice and guidance and to ensure arrangements are in place for all students to access and benefit from this; To advise Colleges on what relevant student support and information for grants, benefits, charities, trust, concessionary fees, awards, accommodation, transport, and child care facilities are available; To oversee EKCGs approach to the widerstudent journey ensuring it supports all learners to develop strong employability skills, English and maths, fundamental British values and positive progression into work, independent living or further/higher education; To be responsible for the development of student enrichment programmes that provide added value to the student experience, support personal development, health and wellbeing and enable students where possible to try something new. To oversee the College’s approach to skills competitions and the co-ordination of such at external events. To develop and oversee EKCGS Additional Learning Support Strategy and Policy to ensure optimum use of ALS resources, which support the improved performance of the most vulnerable learners including High Need and LAC/YCL; To manage the Head of High Needs in providing a service to campuses in respect to best practices in learning support and in taking the lead at regional level on behalf of the College in relation to High Need learners. To develop strong links on behalf of EKCG with relevant agencies such as the Police, Social Services, Kent County Council, etc; To represent the College at review tribunals in relation to EHCP SEND cases; To be responsible for the strategic development and implementation of EKCGs Safeguarding Policy, safeguarding arrangements and the vulnerable learner registers; To be responsible for developing and promoting EKCGs social action strategies; To oversee arrangements for EKCGs student unions; To take a positive lead in promoting the Colleges’ ethos and values; The post holder will be required to work at any location included within EKCGs facilities. Person Specification Director Student Experience Skills and abilityThe resilience to cope with highly charged and distressing student safeguarding casesExcellent change management skills with the ability to influence and lead culture changeA creative approach to the development and design of enrichment and wider study programmes and a commitment to social inclusionExcellent leadership skills and the ability to effectively inspire, motivate and develop staff to achieve targetsImpeccable communication, organisation and presentation skillsTact and diplomacy in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issuesAbility to work under pressure, prioritise and meet tight deadlinesAbility to show initiative, problem solve and ‘can-do’ mentality A strong conviction to ensuring any PREVENT/Safeguarding matters are addressed ExperienceA minimum of three years in a senior student service/support roleWorking at a senior level within the FE and/or HE sectorExperienced in working with vulnerable learners such as LAC/YCL Experience of leading on safeguarding and working with partnersExperience of developing social action projects and enrichment programmes Specialist knowledgeGoodunderstandingof the funding relating to ALS, high need provision, enrichment, bursaries, free school meals and disadvantaged learnersDetailed knowledge of safeguarding and the PREVENT duty A sound understanding of and commitment to achieving excellence in learning supportA detailed knowledge of FE and HE student recruitment and assessmentKnowledge of Educational Health Care Plans when they apply, their completion and how they should inform learning support. EducationEducated to degree level or equivalentSafeguarding qualified to designated officer levelEvidence of continuing education and training
