 Reporting toThe Practice Manager Accountable toThe Practice Manager  Job Summary Provide efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to the patients; processing all relevant prescriptions in accordance with the principles of good practice. Offer general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the Practice including the provision of clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the Practice team Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies  Key Responsibility Areas (KRA):This Job Description is neither exhaustive nor exclusive and will be reviewed periodically in conjunction with the post holder.  The post holder is required to carry out any duties that may reasonably be requested by the Practice Manager or Partners. DispensaryThe duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the Dispensary team may include any or all of the items in the following list.  Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Practice Manager, dependent on current and evolving Practice workload and staffing levels:Dispense acute, repeat and private prescriptions. Check colleagues’ dispensing.Process requests received in person,by telephone, email and online.Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate, collate and file according to practice policy.Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriateEnsure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with practice policy.Ensure that all CD’s are handled and stored in accordance with practice policy.Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address. Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with Practice guidelinesCollect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient. Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately stored and a record kept of all financial transactions.Promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Practice Manager according to Practice policy.Order appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesaler’s computer link,check goods as and when they are delivered and record details, notify and return incorrect goods to the wholesalers.Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice, removing ‘out of date’ stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas, stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.Ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.Take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.Ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook.Undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.Fully partake in all aspects required by the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme (DSQS)To undertake CPD training, to maintain and proactively enhance knowledge required of current Dispensing Practice.To work in accordance with the DDA
