Come and join our community which is developing the future of flight through our “Wing of the future” programme and researching the next big aviation concepts and subsequent technologies, within our new Airbus Wing Integration Centre.We have an opening for 3 F&DT repair engineers in Airbus Filton. You will be a Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Engineer for Wing Structural Repair activities.This is an exciting and challenging role that requires an in depth knowledge of F&DT analysis with regard to supporting the repairs process.You will have a strong technical background in F&DT and excellent communication skills. In addition, you will be expected to have the capability of attaining a level 2 repair signatory delegation within a specified time period.You will need a good knowledge of fatigue and damage tolerance assessment of repairs to metallic and composite aircraft structures.Fatigue, crack growth and residual strength analyses will be performed to assess repair solutions and you will use Airbus methods and computer programs to ensure that the repair conforms to all relevant airworthiness requirements.A sound knowledge of structures, gained preferably in the aerospace industry, is essential and a good understanding of aircraft production methods and processes would be beneficial.A part of this role will be monitoring and co-ordinating your daily tasks according to customer priorities in addition to taking ownership of your F&DT deliverables to meet targets.You will ensure your tasks are completed to time, cost and quality. Additionally, you will be expected to support the repairs department in initiatives such as LEAN, to ensure the continued advancement of the department to the benefit of the business. The role may include a transnational element, supporting the Airbus Repairs organisation.The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a flexible, reactive and adaptable approach to work; typical deadlines have short timescales (often required on the same day as receipt) and this can lead to a high pressure environment.You will need to have a flexible approach to working hours and will be required to work a minimum of one Bank Holiday per year.Tasks & accountabilitiesHigh quality, integrated and certificated engineering repair solutions are provided for the airline operators and other customers.o Create, compile and co-ordinate engineering documentation to achieve valid technical data for repairs.o Ensure all tasks and activities required for allocated Repair Engineering tasks are correctly planned, resourced, monitored and executed to achieve required quality & customer time scales.o Contribute to effective repair team operation with the appropriate use of project management control and measures in achieving these objectiveso Implement incoming task requirements so that Repair Engineering activities meet with Customer Services programmes and ensure outgoing tasking documents are consistent with Airbus and departmental requirements and meet customer requirements.o Provide responses for routine repairs queries, giving advice and guidance as required within Airbus UK on repair matters.In conjunction with the other members of the department, be a member of an integrated engineering team, ensuring its strategy, policy and directions are maintained.Ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation and across all departments, set objectives and prioritise to time, cost and qualityIn conjunction with other members of the team deliver integrated engineering solutions within agreed timescales.Manage all allocated tasks and activities ensuring they are correctly planned, resourced, monitored and executed to achieve required quality & customer time scales.Required skillsAs the successful candidate, you must be able to demonstrate the following:Essential Skills:o Relevant background in F&DTo Ability to work towards gaining a delegated signatory levelo Ability to perform in a high pressure reactive environmento Ability to liaise/negotiate with Design and Static Stress groupso PC skills and a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Powerpoint.o Be conversant with the technical requirements for analysing repairso Good interpersonal and communication skillso The ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables and prioritise.Preferred Skillso Interrogation of design documentation systems a minimum requiremento Working knowledge of Airbus structureso Working knowledge of Airbus design tools and processeso Demonstrated problem solving abilityo Create, compile and co-ordinate engineering documentation to achieve valid technical data for repairsPlease ensure that a covering letter detailing motivations and suitability for this position is included in your application.Applications will be accepted from May 01st 2018 to June 01st 2018.We offer:o Excellent competitive salary with yearly reviewso Total remuneration package made up of Basic Salary, Performance Bonus & Success Sharingo 25 days holiday (Ability to buy 35 additional hours) plus bank holidayso Pension Scheme Defined contribution pension scheme with scale matching contributiono Flexible Benefits based on grade – Multiple options including health care and car optionso Flexible working hours & practices (including Friday half-day)o Onsite social clubso Strong career development opportunities (learning path, opportunities to move internally, UK wide and internationally) View full job description
