What is the purpose of the role?The Water industry is going through the most exciting changes since privatisation 25 years ago. We are currently seeking a true business partner; a hands-on Financial Planning & Analysis Accountant to support the long-term financial planning capability within the Retail and Customer Service division. You will operate a large Excel model that forecasts all CapEx and OpEx cost over a 15-year time horizon.What makes this role unique?As one of the largest household retailers in the UK, with an annual turnover of over £1.7bn and an OPEX spend of circa £170m; this role is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in the future of our business of the next 5 years and beyond. With the prospect of Household competition from as early as 2020, our business is in a unique position and will need to respond to new and exciting challenges never seen before.What will this role involve?Support an effective, integrated and centralised long-range financial planning capability using a 15-year Excel-based financial planning model, keeping up to the necessary standard of competence to develop, check and operate the model. Support the build and validation of annual financial plans, the exploration of scenarios to improve business performance and the preparation of outputs for a wide range of purposes and stakeholders, including for example: annual budgeting processes, regulatory submissions (such as PR-19 data tables), business case evaluations, performance/ benefits tracking and audits. Robust and timely tracking and reporting of benefits delivery. Timely, efficient and accurate delivery of the work within the relevant area of responsibility. Co-ordinate with, and support, finance team colleagues on 'in-year' budgeting and reforecasting exercises as required.What are we looking for?Do you have analytical and financial modelling experience- handling, adapting, operating large and complex Excel models? Are you passionate about getting involved in the future of our business? If the answer is yes, apply now! To be successful in this role you will be a financial modeller, able to develop, check and run the model and equally capable of model coding and operation. As well as being highly numerate with experience of QA checking, you will have strong communication skills, relationship management and presentation skills. Whilst an accounting qualification is an advantage, it is not essential. Good understanding of Regulatory guidance on price controls from Ofwat would be highly advantageous but not essentialThames Water information and salary detailsThis role is based in Reading, with regular travel. With a salary of circa £50k, depending on skills and experience.
