Everyone is responsible for quality and we have a team of skilled people who make sure quality is delivered in the most effective way. This means getting fast feedback, understanding how a service performs, and helping the development team to make more informed decisions. We value automating as much of the test effort as possible allowing our team of specialists and domain experts to undertake better evaluations.  Project Background  ServiceNow is the Strategic ITSM tool used by the Home Office. The project has already delivered the core capabilities required to support services operating across the Home Office. Quality Assurance and Testing have been supporting the programme for the last few years and ServiceNow is now moving into BAU. The DevOps function will be responsible for managing changes and developing new and enhanced functionality going forward.  As the ServiceNow Lead Test Engineer you will be critical to implementing the programme level strategy for quality assurance and testing as the product develops, working in collaboration with senior delivery partners to make sure quality is embedded by default into the development approach.  We expect you to provide technical advice and assurance on improving the way we do things. Others will look to you to provide technical leadership by seeking guidance, coaching and support. To make the QAT practice thrive you'll be exploiting new and emerging tools and approaches and working out how they can help the organisation to deliver better services.  As this is a highly technical role, successful candidates with exceptional skills and experience may also receive a Recruitment and Retention Allowance of up to £9,950. This allowance is dependent on skills and experience, which are assessed against the Recruitment and Retention Allowance criteria at interview. This allowance is subject to annual review in line with departmental priorities and could be reduced or withdrawn at any time.  Essential Skills:  To be a Lead Test Engineer you will need to demonstrate the following essential skills: •             Development of programme and project level test approaches for integration testing, Continuous Integration and Continuous Release within a complex Agile environment •             Working in a technical software environment, requiring a broad range of internal and external integration •             Build, deploy and improve test engineering solutions, which support quality assurance and software development strategies •             Design and provision of test automation environments using virtualisation and containerisation •             Working at senior management level, maintaining effective programme and project stakeholder partnerships •             Proven ability to lead a team of technical test engineers •             Select and deploy tools and test automation techniques including Open Source technologies and object-orientated design •             You will also need to be comfortable with programming languages like Java (with Java JDK and IntelliJ IDEA) using Cucumber to support BDD and have experience using tools like Selenium for front-end automation, build tools like Maven or Gradle and using Git to manage branches and merge requests through distributed version control. You will also have experience with continuous integration, deployment and release tools like Jenkins, Bamboo and GitLab and management tools like JIRA and GitHub. •             Previous experience with ServiceNow, ITIL and Service Management practices •             Owning, maintaining and updating test strategies including providing consultancy and guidance on quality assurance and testing •             Engaging with third party suppliers and wider stakeholders including appropriate reporting  Desirable qualifications or equivalent experience:  •             ISTQB – Advanced Level Technical Tester •             BCS Agile Practitioner •             ISQi Certified Agile Tester •             Computer Science related degree For further information and details of how to apply please visit the Civil Service Website  View full job description
