Qioptiq endeavours to achieve excellent communication throughout the company, and has a focus on encouraging personal development and supporting individuals to exploit their potential, by actively promoting their quest for knowledge, enjoyment of continuous learning and active participation in the life of the company.What will this role of Graduate Technical Computing Engineer entail?As Graduate Technical Computing Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the design and maintenance of a suite of in-house engineering software, whilst installing and administering a wide range of commercially available software packages to support the Design Engineering Team.You’ll be involved in all stages of the software development process for bespoke applications, including capturing user requirements, creating mathematical models of physical processes and implementing a software solution for the end user. Typical applications include lens design, thin film coating design, test equipment control, CNC interfacing and measurement analysis. Duties will include, although not be limited to:• Designing, documenting and maintaining in-house engineering software• Developing mathematical models of physical processes• Liaising with the Information Technology Department on systems issues pertaining to engineering• Maintaining bought-out engineering software and configuration control tools, and the specification and configuration of new PC hardware for engineering usersWhat will I need to be considered for this Graduate Technical Computing Engineer vacancy?• A degree in Physics or a related subject such as Mathematics or Engineering• Proven experience of developing software in a high-level programming language (C#, VB.NET, C/CC+, FORTRAN or Java)• Excellent understanding of physics and mathematics• A technical mindset, with superb analytical skills and problem solving ability• IT literate, with good knowledge of Windows and computer hardware• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written• A positive ‘can do’ attitude, with a desire to succeedWhat will I receive in return?You’ll be part of a global organisation where you will be supported to develop your career with comprehensive training and support provided.Salary: £27,778 per annumAttractive Benefits: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, free car parking, stakeholder pension scheme (with company contribution) includes Life Assurance at x8 salary, learning and development opportunities, bonus plan (profit share), healthcare scheme, cycle to work scheme, childcare voucher scheme, subsidised canteen, and on site occupational health support.Hours of Work: 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday: 8.15am - 16.45pm, Friday: 8.15am -12.15pm.
