Every year our systems process millions of visa applications, border crossings, and passport applications.  Background Test Design & Consultancy Services (TDCS) are part of Home Office Technology (HOT). We provide specialist shared services to support the successful delivery of an interesting and challenging mix of digital and technology programmes across the Home Office Group and wider government. Whilst quality is everyone’s responsibility, we make sure that quality assurance (QA) and testing is professionally managed through our services – supported by the skills, talent and solutions we need to make a real difference  Role and Responsibilities This role is primarily responsible for assisting in the delivery of QA and testing solutions for projects, specifically; •             Assisting with implementing an established QA and test strategy for individual projects or workstreams •             Applying analytical techniques including risk based testing and applying formal test analysis and design techniques where appropriate •             Applying exploratory testing techniques, including the use of test charters and timeboxing •             Evaluating aspects of user experience, accessibility, compatibility and basic load and performance where appropriate and as part of the wider QA and test strategy •             Using a broad range of tools, including open source and cloud based, to support the delivery of QA and test and to assist with implementing test automaton where needed, specifically Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) •             Assisting with integration testing for a project or workstream which may involve integration with other services, organisations or legacy systems •             Delivery of QA and test within an agile environment including developing user stories and acceptance criteria •             Applying QA and testing practices to support the digital by default service standard, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on user needs and user centred design Skills and experience required will be consistent with the TDCS Career Pathway or equivalent  Qualifications: Working Towards: ISTQB – Certified Tester Foundation Level, BCS Agile Foundation, ISQi Certified Agile Tester Optional: PRINCE2 Foundation, MBCS Level Membership  TDCS QA and Testing Competencies Analytical Skills , 3 – Apply Applying risk based assessments to support the delivery of solutions and the application of test estimation techniques to support planning. Can apply formal test design techniques to QA and test delivery including web applications & services and cloud (software as a service). Considers the application of compatibility testing (and mobile applications where required). Applies assurance principles to build confidence in what is being delivered, how it is being delivered and the delivery capabilities of external partners and suppliers where necessary. Applying some basic non-functional testing within an individual workstream or project including security, accessibility and operational acceptance testing where appropriate Applying data testing (including Big Data, MI and migration) where required Exploratory Testing , 3 – Apply Applying exploratory test techniques (including the use of techniques such as test charters and time boxing) to support the delivery of concurrent test design & execution, coordinated with test automation. Applying exploratory techniques to the evaluation of user experience Where necessary, reports outcomes of exploratory testing both within and external to the delivery team  Establishing and Implementing a QAT Strategy , 2 - Assist Assisting with the definition and implementation of QA and testing strategy for individual projects or workstreams. Assisting in the co-ordination of technical strategy and business goals across a number of test levels        Integration Testing , 3 – Apply Applying integration testing within the project or workstream, including systems integration testing which may involve complex integrations with other organisations or legacy applications        Performance Testing , 2 - Assist Assisting with the delivery of performance testing, load testing and the analysis of specific user journeys and priorities. Assisting with analysing, implementing and using performance environments. Assisting with developing performance baselines, KPIs and Service Levels and any appropriate stubs and mocks  Test Automation , 2 - Assist Where necessary assisting in the implementation of test automation frameworks within the delivery workstream or project. Assisting the delivery team to implement appropriate automation techniques, including Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) – with an awareness of languages such as Java, Ruby and Scala and of Test Driven Development (TDD) Assisting the delivery of build automation systems, version control and integrated development environments within an individual workstream or project           Test Tools & Environments , 2 - Assist Assisting the delivery of tools including open source (such as JUnit or NUnit ), Selenium, FitNesse, SOAP & REST web services, Apache CXF Assisting the implementation of tools to support web, load & UI testing and mobile, including BDD (Cucumber), TDD and build and Continuous Integration tools (such as Jenkins, Hudson, Stash, github) where appropriate Assisting the delivery of tool selection within a project or workstream and the establishing of appropriate test environments and data  Using Agile Methods , 3 – Apply Applying QA and Testing within the service design phases (discovery, alpha, beta, live). Identifies and reports issues and risks associated with own work  Level 4 – Business Process Testing Specifies and develops test scenarios to test that new/updated processes deliver improved ways of working for the end user at the same time as delivering efficiencies and planned business benefits.
