Her Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) is the directorate of the Home Office that provides passport services through a network of Customer Service Offices and Centres, Flexible Teams and Video Interviewing Service, and Registration Services via the General Register Office. HMPO is responsible for the day-to-day management, assurance and development of Passport and Registration Operations throughout the UK and, in the future, Overseas Passports operations. Her Majesty’s Passport Office is committed to the development of its’ Public Protection & Fraud Directorate, to improve its capability to combat fraud and provide professional investigation support to the wider investigation community. Facial matching is an exciting new service within the Home Office. It will support, conduct and carry out bespoke facial recognition assessments of subjects to support investigations into passport offences, or for the prevention and detection of crime, or for public protection. The successful candidates will join the Facial Matching Team in the role of Facial Matching Officer, as part of a newly created team providing a biometric matching service for passport operations that is hosted by UKVI on behalf of HM Passport Office. Primary Purpose As part of the adult renewal passport process, Facial Matching Officers will assess and validate images returned by the Facial Matching system, to determine whether it is necessary for HMPO Counter Fraud Operations staff to conduct further investigation. They will perform a key role in the prevention of fraud and public protection and will provide useful insight into the development of the biometric field of facial matching within Government. Key Responsibilities • To verify a ‘match’ or ‘no match’ on images presented to the team which have initially been processed by the Facial Matching system. • To manage own workload, working to departmental/organisational priorities and targets. • To actively participate in the development of the department and the understanding of facial matching as a biometric tool. • To demonstrate and promote the Home Office Valued Behaviours. • To maintain security and confidentiality at all times. • To adhere to Home Office staff policies and procedures. • To take responsibility for own performance and personal and professional development. Note: You may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the grade and within the limits of your skill, competence and training. Additional information: • Applications are open for existing civil service staff on level transfer and promotion, as well as external candidates. • SC level security clearance must be obtained prior to appointment. • The unit currently provides a service between 0800-1800 Monday-Friday and 0900-1700 Saturday, so AO posts require Annualised Hours Working (AHW), where staff work an agreed number of hours for the year rather than weekly conditioned hours.
