Head of PR The Head of PR is responsible for delivering and managing Capital One’s media relations strategy to promote and protect Capital One’s brand and corporate profile in the UK.  Protecting the reputation of Capital One is one of the most critical roles that PR plays.  This role is responsible for the management of Reputation Risk and will help functions across the business to understand and mitigate the reputational risks which are associated with their actions.  Understanding the how the media thinks and could react to such issues is critical. What will you do? Lead on promoting the image of the organisation through savvy and strategic external communications to enhance profile of the business as a financial services and technology leader, and support achievement of the business strategy·         Increase the organisation’s profile and enhance its reputation across all media, and with other relevant influencers. Leading on media relations, you will liaise with journalists, prepare press releases and press briefings, and work with multiple PR agencies·         Exert influence and credibility with the most senior members of the business. Demonstrable ability to influence and take an open and collaborative approach will be vital·         Partner with the External Affairs Director to manage reactive issues and crisis communications, regularly brief and train executives on best-practice engagement strategies and issues management frameworks More specifically you will: Develop and deliver a PR strategy to build and protect Capital One’s brand Manage press office to ensure accurate, timely and informed responses are provided to the media. Manage reactive day to day media relations and proactive media campaignsManage media relations and exposure within national consumer finance, banking and technology press. Develop and execute a sustained programme of relationship building for capital one executives with journalists at key trade, national, wire, and broadcast mediaEnsure Capital One spokespeople are thoroughly briefed, trained and approved prior to media interviews or interactionEnsure that holding statements and pre-prepared media responses on key topics relevant to Capital One are current and accurateDeliver a media and stakeholder engagement strategy to build a strong corporate profile with key journalists and other external stakeholders such as money aggregators and consumer championsWork as part of a cross organisational team in emergency scenarios. Ensure plans for external communications in a crisis are up to date and act as crisis management team point of contact (if/when necessary)Manage PR AgencyManage PR budget What will you bring? Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skillsA developed network of influencer contacts spanning media, social media and wider stakeholdersTrack record of generating stories of strong interest with the mediaA passion for technology and digital services, and recent experience in financial services/fintech and a demonstrable understanding of how the industry worksStrong understanding of the public relations industry, and related knowledge of key trade publications, genre publications and local and national outletsProven hands-on management skills covering multiple complex projects including the planning, execution and meeting deadlinesExperience of developing and implementing external communications campaigns Role Requirements University degree in Communications, Media or Journalism is essentialProven experience leading UK teams and managing UK/European PR campaignsDemonstrable crisis communications expertise is a mustExperience serving as a primary UK company spokesperson is essential along with proven experience training senior officials as company spokespersonsProven experience of developing and implementing external communications campaigns.Excellent media, political, and sector judgement is a mustProven ability to manage budgets effectively is a essentialExperience managing PR agencies is critical  Date Apps Open: 12/12/2017Date Apps Close: 09/01/2018 Location: London Salary: Competitive  View full job description
