Sheffield is part of the national Henry Royce Institute (with the main Hub in Manchester) which aims to grow the UK world-leading research and innovation base in advanced materials science, fundamental to all industrial sectors and the national economy. The Royce@Sheffield focuses on Advanced Materials Processing and will be delivered through two centres - the Royce Discovery Centre (RDC) and the Royce Translational Centre (RTC). These state-of-the-art facilities will allow materials discovery, materials manufacturing and prototype production and will act as an open access centre of excellence for the UK.  The Research Associate will be at the heart of new research facilities within the Royce Discovery Centre. The post holder will be responsible for establishing technical operation and key research competencies in materials characterization, particularly within transmission electron microscopy and all associated techniques such as high spatial resolution chemical analysis (EELS, EDS). You will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in material science, engineering or any other relevant discipline. The candidate will have substantive expertise in bulk and thick film processing of electroceramics and their electrical characterisation. For the operational management of the facility, excellent project and people management skills are essential, preferably with experience in managing and delivering multiple research and development projects for a range of stakeholders. You will be familiar with all relevant Health and Safety rules and regulations. Finally, the candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as experience of supervising and line managing staff. Sheffield is one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK.
