Housing Enforcement Officer x 2 posts

Company: Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Location: South Yorkshire UK

Date Posted:Jan 23, 2018

Reporting to Selective Licensing Team Leader, these are temporary posts for a fixed term of 2 years. The Council is currently operating a successful Selective Licensing Scheme and as such additional capacity has been created in order to further build on the success and challenge of the current project. These roles will play a pivotal role in the enforcement of standards introduced as a result of Selective Licensing for Landlords letting private residential property. Selective Licensing has been introduced to deal with low housing demand, which is caused in part by the lack of good quality homes in the private rented sector.  The Licensing Scheme aims to improve the privately rented housing stock by requiring landlords to adhere to additional conditions and to meet their social responsibilities.  The scheme represents a real shift in focus on the housing sector and will aim to bring real improvements through effective licensing and monitoring. You will deal with enforcement of a range of powers in relation to the Selective Licensing Scheme to enable the Council to achieve full compliance, including inspections, serving enforcement notices and preparing prosecution files. You will need to offer a positive approach to your work and an ability to join a well-established and highly motivated team with minimum supervision. Relevant experience in services within a customer-focused service delivery organisation is essential while experience of housing related services and the relevant legislative framework is desirable. You must show a keen eye for detail, and an ability to communicate information to all levels. The role will involve preparation of legal notices and files for presentation at Court and/or Tribunal.  You must be enthusiastic, a good team worker with commitment, flexibility, and with a capability of working on your own initiative. You will need to demonstrate positive skills in establishing and developing productive working relationships and also deliver against personal and team targets.  Excellent ICT skills are essential for the roles. For an informal discussion please contact Craig Cornwall, Selective Licensing Team Leader on (01709) 255039.
