We believe that by listening to local people, working in active partnership and by being prepared to do things in an innovative way we can accelerate improvement and best meet the challenges ahead.All posts include generous annual leave, flexible working (some posts excluded), a 37 hour week, as well as access to the local government pension scheme.Main Duties: Thanet District Council is looking for a highly motivated Housing Licensing Officer to join our Private Sector Housing Team. You will play a key role in the delivery of the council’s private sector housing licensing schemes by processing licence applications, carrying out licensing investigations and inspections, and taking enforcement action (where appropriate) to ensure that licensable properties provide safe housing for the residents of Thanet. Much of the work will relate to Kent’s only selective licensing designation, which affects around 2,300 homes in the Cliftonville area of Margate. This post will be attractive to anyone seeking to broaden their experience with a challenging and varied role where initiative and robust interventions are encouraged.Essential Requirements: You will have experience and knowledge of legislation relating to private sector housing, in particular relating to the licensing of residential accommodation and enforcement of housing conditions.You will have experience of using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and the enforcement options available to you under the Housing Act 2004.Applicants will hold an HNC/HND or similar qualification in housing, building surveying or environmental health, as well as a competency certificate for HHSRS.Due to the nature of the role, this post requires an enhanced DBS check.This post requires you to have a full driving licence and own transport or requires travelling to sites in a timely manner equivalent to motor travel in your own car.Interviews to be held 18th - 19th June 2018For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Lisa-Marie Richardson or Richard Hopkins on 01843 577437 or at lisa-marie.richardson@thanet.gov.uk.Closing Date: Friday 01 June 2018Interview Date: To be confirmed View full job description
