A critical component to success will be to develop a ‘best in class’ alumni programme that thoughtfully engages alumni in the intellectual life of the RGU community. Engaged alumni are the university’s most loyal supporters and valuable ambassadors. RGU Advancement serves in a critical role in shaping and serving as a strategic asset in delivering on the institution’s strategic priorities, which include leading as a positive disruptor in higher education and playing a critical role as a partner to business, the community, and other educational institutions. The portfolio of departments includes RGU Alumni, RGU Communications, the RGU Foundation, and the Department of Strategy, Planning and Policy Development.Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.Closing Date: 31 May 2018.Job DescriptionRESPONSIBLE TO: Head of RGU Alumni, University AdvancementRESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibilityPURPOSE OF POST: The primary purpose of this position will be to build strong relationships with colleagues across campus and develop an innovative alumni programme that enables lifelong intellectual enrichment.You will work collaboratively with colleagues in RGU Advancement to implement an engaging and enriching intellectual programme. You will also support post-programme evaluation and identify staff and process improvements to facilitate a successful launch and ensure the programme is of high quality, impactful and of high intellectual value to alumni. The ambition being for RGU to be internationally recognised as ‘best in class’ in its delivery of thoughtful alumni engagement programmes.Your primary role will be to develop and implement an intellectual programme that enables RGU alumni to access RGU’s thought leaders, renowned experts and state-of-the art resources to enrich their intellectual life. This will include a series of lecture and panel-based programming delivered on-campus, within priority regions and within the digital environment. Formats will include webinars, online discussions and TED-style talks for alumni.PRINCIPAL DUTIESDevelop and implement an intellectual programme that enables RGU alumni to access RGU’s thought leaders, renowned experts and state-of-the art resources to enrich their intellectual life. This will include a series of lecture and panel-based programming delivered on-campus, within priority regions and within the digital environment (for example, webinar based, Ted Talks).Establish productive internal relationships and open communication with schools, departments and the student union to explore opportunities that will enable alumni to intellectually engage with the life of the university.Conduct a situational analysis to assess current “intellectual programme” related activity that is taking place within schools and departments, as well as the external environment. Work in partnership with colleagues in RGU Alumni and RGU Communications to effectively stimulate curiosity amongst alumni; encouraging them to explore opportunities within the university that support continuing education and lifelong intellectual enrichment.To be the subject matter expert and adviser to internal RGU clients of best practices in alumni intellectual programming strategy and activity.To identify ‘hot topics’ taking place in the digital space that aligns with RGU’s intellectual profile and, working in partnership with the relevant campus partners, provide alumni with the opportunity to not only be kept up-to-date with new thinking and innovation, but also participate, inform and collaborate in intellectual debate.Ensure consistent and accurate alumni data collection to be recorded on Raiser’s Edge.Person SpecificationESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTSKnowledge and ExperienceExperience of working in alumni relations, public relations and/or organising education or community related programmes.Experience of working in a role with responsibility for relationship management and engaging a variety of constituents by building mutually beneficial relationships.Experience of organising events – both on in the physical and digital environment.Ability to use/interpret date to inform objectives.Belief in the value of education, alumni engagement and volunteerism.A good understanding of social media, and the need to use this effectively to engage with alumni.DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTSQualifications and Professional MembershipsUndergraduate degree, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.Relevant further qualifications.Knowledge and ExperienceSubstantial experience in a similar role, or field in the HE sector.Experience of working with relational databases, preferably Raiser’s Edge.BehavioursBehaviour 1: Service Delivery - Experience of exploring and adapting a service to meet customers’ expectations and also identifying ways of improving standards Behaviour 2: Communication - Ability to receive, understand and convey both straightforward information, and information requiring careful explanation, in a clear and accurate mannerBehaviour 3: Decision Making - Experience of using own judgement to make decisions, making collaborative decisions with others to reach conclusions and providing advice or information that will influence the decisions of othersBehaviour 4: Liaison and Networking - Experience of circulating information in an accurate and timely manner, working across team boundaries to build and strengthen working relationships, leading and developing internal networks to pursue a shared interest and leading and building external networks to enhance the work of the organisation View full job description
