This three-fold commitment is backed by decades of experience, leadership, and a strong focus on quality.About the role• Carry out metallurgical analysis and investigation of components• To carry out preparation and testing on submitted samples, by agreed methodology, as directed by the designated line manager, as required, or other senior personnel.• This will generally be limited to simple laboratory techniques, and the use of basic instrumentation under supervision.• Performing sample analysis to an acceptable standard and in accordance with established procedures (Results may require checking by senior personnel).• Maintaining accurate records of observations and calculations.• Undertaking miscellaneous duties, as requested and approved by the by the designated line manager as required.• Avoiding unsafe acts and follow company Health Safety & Environmental procedures.• Becoming familiar with Health Safety & Environmental information issued by the company.• Reporting all accidents and incidents no matter how trivial.• Reporting near misses.• Ensuring, that relevant risk assessments are consulted for the work being carried out, and if these are unavailable then bringing this to the attention of senior personnel and assisting in the assessment of work related hazards and risks.• Ensuring, that relevant COSHH assessments are consulted for the substances being used, and if these are unavailable then bringing this to the attention of senior personnel and assisting in COSHH Assessment where required.• Ensuring that the correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn where required.• Ensuring that safety devices and manufacturer’s instructions are followed when using equipment.Additional InformationWe will provide the required training, education and mentoring that will allow you to meet the requirements of the role and develop new skills to progress in your career.This role involves general metals preparation techniques, experience in metallurgy failure investigation and is based on a rotating shift pattern, days and afternoons. However permanent afternoons will be considered.About youRequired skills and experience• Good IT literacy skills (MS Word and Excel)• Thorough knowledge of metals preparation laboratory techniques, micro prep. cutting, grinding, polishing, mounting• Experience in analysis techniques; SEM, XRD, microscopic & Hardness techniques)• General metallurgical knowledge and experience.
