Salford Law is proud of it’s reputation as a provider of an academically rigorous and practically relevant legal education. It has developed a pro bono offering (CLOCK) and is in the process of expanding these activities. The department has responded proactively to changes in the nature of legal education, legal business formations, and the employment destination of law graduates. This has resulted in the production of a suite of five new law degree programmes and two new LLM programmes, which are designed to reflect the changing nature of the legal working environment. At the core of these new degrees is the aim to prepare students for the possibility of employment in both the traditional legal professions as well as within commercial and third sector organisations. This development has the stated aim of increasing the employment prospects for graduates of Salford Law. In response to the new degrees, student recruitment onto the LLB Programmes has increased by 49% in the period 2013-14 and an increase of 110% in the period 2012-2014. In addition applications for our LLB programmes increased a further 28% for the 2016-17 intake, and for 2017-18 the number of applications have increased yet again. Salford Law is also proud of its NSS results which place it amongst the leading law providers in the country for student satisfaction. We are particularly proud of our NSS results in 2015 which produced a satisfaction rating of 100% for our Law Combined programmes (1st in the survey) and 98% for our LLB Law programme (ranked 5th in the survey). The 2016 survey also produced outstanding results. These outstanding achievements coupled with our research outputs have resulted in substantial rises in all the recognised league tables for Salford Law with increases of up to 11 places in a single year. The research culture within the department is vibrant, inter-disciplinary and supportive of all forms of research. At present we have particular research strengths in the areas of EU Law, International Law, Public Law, Jurisprudence, Cyber Law, Media Law, Employment Law, Contract law, Intellectual Property, and Legal History but we welcome all disciplinary research. The success of these programme innovations has led to the employment of five new full-time academic law staff in 2014,a further two law staff in 2015, another two in 2016 and a further two appointments in recent months. In light of this sustained success, Salford Law within Salford Business School is now seeking more full-time Lecturer in Law Practice based staff members. For these posts Salford Law is looking to recruit candidates with a current legal practicing certificate, allowing the practice of law in the UK. The successful candidate will have experience of forming links with the legal profession. Whilst this position would include some undergraduate and postgraduate teaching it is expected that the successful candidate would play a leading role in the further development of the practical and pro bono activities of Salford Law.
