We have an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities.*QS World University Rankings 2012 – 13.We are seeking a proactive individual, with proven Customer Experience skills to come and join us in the Hartley Library, working as a Library Assistant. You will be joining a team whose focus is to provide our customers with an experience which is informative and supportive. We are looking to recruit an individual to this position, whose responsibility will be to provide help and support to users of the Hartley Library, including students, academics and external visitors. The Hartley Library is a busy, vibrant environment and we need a person who thrives in these situations. The Hartley Library itself is an integral part of the University of Southampton and attracts users from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. As such, you will have well developed communication skills and be able to adapt your communication style accordingly.In the role of Library Assistant, you will be responsible for providing a high quality and professional experience to all users of the University Library service. You will work primarily from the Hartley Library helpdesk, but you need to be flexible, as you may be expected at times to help colleagues on other library sites. You will be using your exceptional communication skills face to face with customers, via the telephone and a range of digital services, enabling our users to get the support they require. This support may include library access, room bookings, loan services or equipment loan, amongst other types of support. You must be able to work on your own initiative and escalate issues when appropriate. You will have proven time management skills, to help you plan and prioritise your workload using the relevant IT systems and processes, as this is a very busy library. This is a role where you must show an aptitude for being a positive contributor to the team and someone who actively strives to improve the customer experience we deliver at Hartley Library.We will provide training to the successful candidate to ensure they are well equipped to perform their role and provide ongoing coaching once in place. We take great pride in Hartley Library to ensure the library is a welcoming place to learn and study and we’re looking for an individual who can help us maintain these high standards.This position is suitable for individuals with a proven background in customer experience and the delivery of customer support.This post is Term Time Only, 38 working weeks per year.
