LOCUM CONSULTANT IN OPHTHALMOLOGY General Ophthalmology &Medical Retina Based at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital Applications are invited for the above 6 month locum part-time post. You will be part of a team of six full-time consultants and two part-time consultants providing a comprehensive Ophthalmology service to the population of Bedfordshire and North Hertfordshire. Current sub-specialty expertise includes Paediatric Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, Anterior Segment, Oculoplastics/Lacrimal and Medical Retina. This part-time locum appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract England. The appointee will be expected to support both the General Ophthalmology and Medical Retinal Service. Initial job plan will be for 6 PAs with the opportunity for additional clinical sessions from September 2018 when a new IVT suite comprising three consulting rooms and a second injection room becomes operational. There will be no on-call commitment. You will be supported by one Associate Specialist, two Specialty Doctors and two surgical trainees from the East of England Deanery. The L&D NHS Foundation Trust is an acute hospital serving a population of 350,000 The post will be at the L&D site with the possibility of a community clinic within Luton or Harpenden. The surrounding areas are both urban and rural, the latter including many attractive villages within easy reach of the hospital. There is very good access to central London by road or rail and to the Midlands and the North via the M1 and A1. London Luton Airport is within twenty minutes of the hospital. It is an exciting time to be joining our hospital as The Trust Boards of Luton and Dunstable University Hospital and Bedford Hospital have agreed to explore plans to merge and form one NHS Trust with effect from 1 April 2018. Under the umbrella of the single NHS Trust, both hospitals will retain their identity and individual hospital names. The Hospital is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. Our Foundation Trust status has enabled considerable expansion in facilities, staff and hence services offered. The Associate Teaching Hospital status with UCL and Cambridge has strengthened our teaching and R&D programme and brings a more academic environment to the hospital. The successful candidate should be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of acquiring the CCT at the time of the Advisory Appointments Committee.
