Are you willing to contribute your expertise and enthusiasm to making a difference to design quality in West Dunbartonshire?  Join our Place and Design Panel; a new venture in early engagement and impartial, objective dialogue with upcoming development. The Place and Design Panel will play a key role in raising the quality of design development, improving the health, well-being, aspirations and economic fortunes of West Dunbartonshire.You will be joining us at an exciting time with a number of our waterfront sites being progressed such as; Queens Quay, the historic former home of the John Brown’s Shipyard which built ships such as the QE2, Queen Mary; and Dumbarton Waterfront set in the shadow of Dumbarton Castle and Rock.We are looking for young inspiring professionals, experienced professionals or those recently retired in the following professions; architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, town planning, civil/structural engineering, sustainability and planning.Historians and artists and those with skills in areas such as; conservation, heritage, ecology, police liaison are invited to apply. However, we welcome applications from any other such skills that will add value in delivering a better quality environment with an emphasis on design excellence.If you are interested in being a part of this exciting opportunity please send us your CV and a covering letter outlining your interest and the contribution you could make to the Place and Design Panel.To apply to join the Place and Design Panel or should you wish to know more prior to applying, please contact;       Ashley Mullen – Place and Design Officer, Tel. 01389 737775, email .The closing date for applications is Friday 2nd February 2018     Requirements Role Title:Place and Design Panel MemberRole Purpose:   The Place and Design Panel (the Panel) members will function as an independent body of experts brought together to review proposals in a workshop environment, engaging in discussions around the project that come before it, in the spirit of enablement and co-creation.Dimensions and Scope of Role:The Place and Design Panel workshops will be coordinated by the Place and Design Officer. She will align the skills on the panel correctly in order to make the most of the workshop process.The Panel will comprise of a ‘pool’ of 20 members selected from the professional applicants with a further 8 positions filled with members holding additional valuable skills. A Panel sitting will involve a chair person and the alignment of 4/5 members with such skills that will add value to the review of the development coming before it.The position of Chair to the Panel is open to all applicants who may have prior experience or an interest in undertaking this role and this should be noted in your application. The members and positions of Chair will be selected by West Dunbartonshire Council. Meetings will take place  in the afternoon at West Dunbartonshire Council Offices – Aurora House, Clydebank initially and then in the new Council Office, 16 Castle Street, Dumbarton.Panel Members will be required to attend between 3-6 panel sittings per year.The role is not remunerated but expenses are payable in line with West Dunbartonshire Council policies and procedures.The appointment will be at the Council’s discretion and is expected to run for a term of 3 years. Key Activities, Responsibilities and OutcomesThe Place and Design Panel member remit includes reviewing projects within the West Dunbartonshire Council area that are classified as Major Development or are identified as a key regeneration site. Panel members are expected to offer their best professional advice on matters of design and form related to buildings and structures, masterplans for large development sites, site layout proposals and public realm projects.
