JOB DESCRIPTION Title                                       Nursery Manager Based at                               The Mall Nursery and Creche Luton Responsible to                  The Mall Nursery and Creche Charity Trustees/Management Committee Purpose of job                  + To lead and manage the nursery provision and staff to ensure that childcare and The Early Years Foundation Stage are delivered to an excellent standard and in accordance with all Ofsted, legal, statutory and other recommended practice arrangements                                                + To support and empower families, enhancing the development and education of children in accordance with the charity’s aims.  Principal Responsibilities Manage and have overall responsibility for the day care and educational provision ensuring that the children’s welfare and wellbeing is at the centre of all practice. Co-Ordinate the admissions process and allocation of Key persons. Ensure the quality of delivery is of the highest standard, developing and maintaining creative and innovative practice and keeping up to date with legislation, theory and new developments in practice. Monitor the planning and coordinate the evidencing of curriculum planning and assessment liaising with the teacher to ensure EYFS is delivered to an excellent standard.Manage and promote the development of strong partnerships with families and other professionals ensuring the nursery builds upon the strengths of the community and promoting parent carer involvement with their child and in the work and management of the nursery. Provide leadership and management, ensuring effective safer recruitment compliance, induction and development of all staff reporting to you and providing effective line management through performance management, supervision and personal and professional development including in-house and external training.Ensure staff are deployed efficiently and appropriately, monitoring holiday requests and staff cover for absences.Ensure key person system is working effectively for the benefit of parents and childrenTaking responsibility for the induction process to ensure that it is appropriate, up to date and that staff on completion are equipped to perform their prescribed roles safely & effectively Manage, develop and co-ordinate effective systems of communication internally and externally to all stakeholders including families, ensuring there are robust links and integration with our Flying Start Centres including the agencies worked with. Develop a culture of joint working to ensure achievement of agreed outcomes for all children. Delegate appropriately, providing support and monitoring to ensure efficient achievement of objectives. Seek support from colleagues, management committee and other partners when necessary. To be fully aware and have a sound knowledge of safeguarding child protection legislation, local safeguarding children’s board and local statutory children’s service agency requirements. Ensure that practice within the setting complies with Local Safeguarding Children’s Board and that policies and procedures are fully understood, implemented and followed by staff in the setting resulting in safeguarding being a key priority for all. Ensure safeguarding supervision is provided for all staff.  Take accountability for the day to day monitoring and compliance around safeguarding and child protection. Act as the Designated Safeguarding officer for the day care provision and assume this responsibility for the nursery. Participate fully in EHA and other meetings involving children supported by the setting. Be trained to a minimum level 2 safeguarding and to attend other relevant training and refreshers as defined by LSCB safeguarding course requirements.  Challenge barriers to access and participation in a robust manner, working towards an environment that is free from discrimination and prejudice. Ensure equal opportunities are taken into account in all service and employment matters including monitoring, planning and implementing change. Act as Health & Safety Officer including risk assessment and premises maintenance regulations, ensuring that the setting remains compliant with landlord requirements and government legislation. Monitoring & EvaluationKeep appropriate records ensuring compliance with data protection requirements and implement monitoring and evaluation systems. Ensure that referral and allocation mechanisms exist to ensure the most appropriate and effective use of all services provided by the nursery.Be responsible for the performance management of the daycare provision, collating and analyzing information as appropriate and production of reports as required.Maintain the early years self-evaluation document (SEF) & Welfare and safeguarding audits.Ensure the setting is meeting the educational, welfare & legal requirements of the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) and local authority requirementsTake overall responsibility for the operational plan, allocated budgets and resources to ensure the provision is functioning effectively and delivering value for money. In co-ordination with the management committee oversee budget setting, provision and preparation of accounts for audit including contributing to the Trustees Annual report for the Charity Commission.Co-Ordinate and service the Nursery Management Committee including preparing policies and procedures for approval or review.Be responsible for the investigation & resolution of parent concerns and complaints Personal DevelopmentParticipate in and contribute to relevant meetings/conferences/study days/in house and inter-agency training.Work towards a level 4 qualification & Early Years Professional status (if not already achieved). FlexibilityAny other duties that are required to ensure the continued running of The Mall Nursery and Creche.
