Role ProfileINTERNAL TO EMPLOYEES OF NORTH AYRSHIRE COUNCIL ONLYROLE DEFINITIONTo provide services to the Council as a paralegal within the debt recovery team as part of the Council's in-house Legal team.???KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESCorporate ResponsibilitiesTo undertake individual role in line with the Council’s Strategic Priorities and in compliance with the Council’s corporate policies and procedures.To undertake any other reasonably required duties as instructed by Management or someone acting on their behalf, in addition to the role specific tasks & responsibilities detailed below.Role Specific Tasks & ResponsibilitiesTo assist the Senior Manager, Team Managers, Solicitors and Senior Paralegal, Legal Services in the provision of legal services to the Council and to provide general paralegal services including but not restricted to:-Liaising and negotiating with customers to set up payment plans for money due to the Council.Communicating with customers by telephone, letter and email correspondence.Liaising with and reporting to Council Services on the progress of recovery of payments due.Logging, monitoring and maintaining information relating to customers who owe monies to the Council.Administrative duties connected with providing a proactive debt recovery service for the Council.Processing invoices for payment.Preparing court actions for recovery of money due to the Council, including considering and evaluating all supporting evidential papers, preparing the court papers, submitting them to court and ensuring all administrative processes in relation to the court application are undertaken timeously and solicitors are notified of progress and court requirements.Liaising with outside agencies including the Scottish Court Service and Sheriff Officers regarding ongoing court actions.Submission of claim forms to the Accountant in Bankruptcy with regard to bankruptcy cases.Assisting with the training of and providing guidance to the paralegal modern apprentice.Reporting to the Senior Paralegal and Team Manager (Litigation) on work in progress.Ensuring compliance with and adherence to the Data Protection Act and the Council's policy on data protection to ensure appropriate handling of confidential information.Providing cover as may be necessary for the other paralegal team within Legal Services as may be required from time to time.????ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE CRITERIA EssentialDesirableEvidenceEducation and QualificationsSVQ Level 2 in Administration or equivalentNational 4 passes in English and Maths or equivalent or suitable equivalent experience??????Application FormInterviewExperienceExperience of paralegal work within a local authority in -house legal team??????????Application FormReferencesInterviewSpecialist KnowledgeKnowledge of court processes?????????????Application FormInterviewPre/Post-Interview Check (if appropriate)Skills and AbilitiesOral and written communication skillsOrganisation and time management skills including workload management and prioritisationAbility to work as part of a team??????????Application FormReferencesInterviewOther??????????Application FormInterviewPre/Post-Interview Check (if appropriate)Staff Values & BehavioursNorth Ayrshire Council uses behavioural based approach throughout the recruitment process.
