Post Graduate Clinical Innovation Fellows The Great Western Hospital is looking to continue with its successful Clinical Innovation Fellows Programme for the Academic Year beginning 1st August 2018. These are 12 month fixed term posts in the first instance but there may be an opportunity extended for a further 12 months by mutual agreement. All appointees will spend 50 of their time working with Postgraduate Medical Education Department and 50 of their time undertaking clinical work. The rotations will be agreed at interview.This can be one specialty or a rotation of two.These roles are aimed at post foundation year doctors of varying seniority who wish to spend time working in medical education and innovation leadership roles as well as clinically within the Great Western Hospital, Swindon. The ideal candidate is a doctor wishing to take time to do more leadership and innovation before deciding what the next stage of their career should be. You may wish to pursue a part time higher degree: You may wish to discover your leadership, management and influencing skills: You may have a passion to enhance your medico–associated skills such as development of apps, creation of simulation scenarios etc.You will be dynamic, self-driven and able to manage your time. The post may also be suitable for doctors who hold a CCT. All appointee’s will be Supported to undertake a formal educational or leadership/management qualification such as Healthcare, Economics transformational Leadership and ManagementHELM Programme, The Teaching &Learning for Health Professionals or certificate, a master’s programme or a variety of different academic/managerial qualifications such as statistical analysis. The Clinical Innovation Fellow’s will also be offered the opportunity &funding to take part in a range of educational and innovation/management programmes such as:Regional and Trust innovation, quality and efficiency improvement programmesSimulation training and leadership in our state-of-the art simulation suiteDepartmental post graduate teaching in their chosen speciality while they prepare for MRCP, MRCS or Primary Care exams.Medical Education programmesSupport to shadow a Senior Manager Role What have past Fellows said? “As a postgraduate fellow I have absolute freedom to create and design my own projects. Here are a few examples of what I have done: Foundation and CMT simulation and clinical skills teaching, innovation projects changing processes and rotas in the acute medical unit improving the working environment for junior doctors, community projects including point of care GP simulation and hospital based mentoring schemes. The team is friendly and welcoming, always on hand to support and advise. The job is flexible and accommodating to personal circumstances e.g. family commitments, exams etc. The team encourage your development and will fund attendance at relevant conferences and courses. I really enjoyed the HELM course and found it extremely useful. It is lovely being in a small team of 6 other fellows, we all get on really well and help each other out with projects and ideas. My projects have fitted well into my clinical work, with support to make the split between clinical and academic work flexible and fit with exams and applications. I’ve been involved in simulation training, teaching, service improvement and research and been valued and trained in my clinical role in surgery.
