What is the purpose of the role?The role of this mobile based, tech 1 operative is to perform a range of activities to ensure that all equipment associated with our sewage treatment works are running safely and efficiently and to assist the site technicians with their technical duties. Responsibilities include cleaning machines, sample testing, routine checks, maintenance and problem solving.What makes this role unique?Working outside with no one day being the same provides a very interesting working environment. You will receive competitive benefits as well as full training for health & safety and maintenance related to the plant.What will this role involve?This role will involve, but not be limited to: Monitoring and inspecting equipment e.g. lifting and unblocking pumps, following a checklist to carry out planned preventative maintenance, ensuring equipment / generators / telemetry are working by doing a test run. Reporting any defective equipment, to ensure a swift resolution following any breakdowns. Highlighting, and resolving where possible, any health and safety risks on site. Taking ownership of your own, and colleagues, health and safety through escalating any concerns to your manage and resolving them yourself where possible. Making sure work area is safe before commencing any work by undertaking a point of work risk assessment. Having an awareness of budget position and how unplanned events can impact on the budget (e.g. tanker/plant/pump hire, etc.) Attending all team meetings, engaging with safety briefings and company communications, identifying issues and raising constructive feedback with the management team, with suggestions for improvements. Working on the largest civil project that our business has ever under taken, the Tideway Tunnel, running from Acton in the West to Beckton in the East which incorporates five of our pumping stations.What are we looking for?Do you have similar experience working in an outside, manual role? We are looking for someone who wants to get stuck in and will have a proactive approach. You will have basic literacy and numeracy skills and must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including confined space entry. Some computer data input /enquiry experience is desirable. Due to the nature of the role a full, valid UK driving licence is required.Thames Water information and salary detailsThis role is based at Abbey Mills PS in Stratford, London. We are offering a salary of £22,500 to £29,000 depending on skills and experience. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
