Job Title: Product Development Team Leader Location: Hitchin Salary: Up to £45,000 + Benefits Reporting to: Head of Product Engineering Type: Permanent MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB Product Development Team Leader required to co-ordinate teams of CAD, electronics hardware, and software engineers in the design of new products for the food inspection industry. The role supports the project manager by leading the technical development aspects of the project. Additionally the role provides current model support by managing Engineering Change Requests into production KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESLead product development from concept through to production.Coordinate requirements capture and develop System Requirements Documents.Change control of Bills of Materials and release management.Participate in project milestone reviews by preparing and presenting the key technical documentation.Manage technical risks and issues.Develop and manage design verification test plans.Develop test rigs for product testing and validationAssist design engineers with applications engineering and testing.Support Sales, Marketing and Service teams with technical queries.Support supplier visits by providing technical requirements inputSupport Manufacturing team to develop build process instructions.Be hands-on with product development when required.Provide support to the current product portfolio through management of Engineering Change Requests. PrerequisitesDegree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Automotive, Aero, Manufacturing, Design).Good working experience of a stage/gate product development methodology (e.g. V-Model).Experience of delivering successful products to market.Experience of coordinating different engineering functions (mechanical CAD designers, electronics and software engineers) to deliver products to meet customer requirements.Significant experience in the design of products with mechanical and electrical / electronic elements.Good knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.Experience of product testing (EMC, environmental, vibration, durability, software validation).Use of DFMEA and consideration of Design for Manufacture in the development of new products.Focus consistently on delivery. Escalates appropriately to resolve issues.Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interface with all parts of the business internally and with customers and suppliers.Understanding of financial business cases.Excellent problem solving ability to establish root cause. A team motivator with a 'can do' outlook.A passion for design with attention to detail.The ability to work to tight deadlines and budgets.Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and make confident decisions.Broad awareness and appreciation of differing global business cultures.
