The North Isles Landscape Partnership Scheme will raise awareness of and conserve and enhance the distinct identities of Orkney’s North Isles through the delivery of a number of projects. In the latest Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey, Orkney retained the title of Britain’s best rural place to live.The aspiration is to improve the condition of heritage assets, make heritage more accessible, encouraging the involvement of young people and the sharing of heritage between generations.The total programme cost is some £4.5 million. At £2.8m, the Heritage Lottery Fund is the lead funding partner, with Historic Environment Scotland committing £0.65m. Other programme partners include Orkney Islands Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Natural Heritage, RSPB Scotland, and North Isles Community Groups. The scheme will be led by Orkney Islands Council and will encompass a wide range of projects, for example built heritage improvements, historic and environment conservation, traditional skills development and training, research and interpretation.The Council is inviting applications for the above post to recruit and lead the Implementation Team.You will be responsible for the successful implementation and management of the £4.5 million Programme, including the recruitment and management of the Implementation Team. We are looking for someone with a degree or postgraduate level qualification in a relevant subject e.g. Heritage/Countryside Management, Environmental Studies, Sustainable/Rural Development, Landscape Architect, or Planning and have experience of managing large, complex, grant-assisted projects, preferably in a heritage or environmental setting. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate effective contract and people management skills and be experienced in partnership working and securing and managing funding from a variety of sources. You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
