Following a successful bid to NHS England for transformation funding, the Liaison Psychiatry Team at St Mary’s Hospital has commenced recruitment to roll-out a Core-24 service model in December/January 2017.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), to apply for a Band 7 Psychiatric Liaison Nurse, Senior Practitioner position within the Liaison Psychiatry Team. The Team is integrated and provides a 24/7 all age (18+years) adult liaison psychiatry service to St Mary’s Hospital. This post will be partly focussed on our Older Adult patient group during daytime working hours (Monday – Sunday, 9.00am-5.00pm). All candidates will be expected to have significant Older Adult experience as the post-holder will be responsible for clinical work and for supervising and providing support to Band 6 Psychiatric Liaison Nurses with experience of working with patients who have mental health difficulties commonly associated with old age. During working hours the post-holder will be the first point of contact for Older Adult referrals although there will be an expectation that you will also assess any adult over the age of 18 years. Candidates who have not previously or recently worked in an adult mental health setting must be willing to undertake training and supervision that will be provided to ensure they meet the competencies to undertake the assessment of all adults over the age of 18 years (This is not an older adult specific role).The Liaison Psychiatry Team is based at the Paterson Cabin which is on the St Mary’s Hospital site in Paddington. The Liaison Psychiatry Team is an integrated mental health team which includes psychiatric liaison nurses, specialist HIV and CBT nurses, and Psychiatrists specialising in Liaison Psychiatry. The team provides assessment and consultation to any patient attending St Mary’s Hospital. The Team is rated as an “excellent” service by the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network (PLAN). We are looking for a highly motivated, suitably qualified and experienced Psychiatric Liaison Nurse who is a self-starter and can demonstrate clear leadership ability. This position is only open to applicants who have a minimum of 5 years post registration experience including at least 2 years in a Band 6 Older Adult nursing role (community or hospital based). The specialist nature of this role requires us to appoint a clinician with significant knowledge and experience to this front line clinical/managerial position. The post-holder will support the Team Manager and Deputy Team Manager in the day to day operational and clinical management of the Psychiatric Liaison service and will be expected to regularly undertake delegated managerial responsibilities and duties, and to deputise for the Team Manager in his/her absence or as required.The post-holder will support the Team Manager in delivering a service which is soundly evidence based, has a reputation for quality and ensures that all available resources are utilised efficiently and within budget.The post-holder must have a warm and friendly disposition and have very good communication and interpersonal skills. They must be a team player, be confident and motivated as well as being flexible and able to show initiative. They must be robust and resourceful and willing to work outside their comfort zone in an environment which can often be demanding and stressful.The post-holder will be expected to inspire, build and drive the performance of the team and deliver to deadlines and targets with the strong support of the Team Manager.The successful candidate must be able to work a 9.00am-5.00pm shift pattern which will include weekend shifts. You will be required to work every third weekend on a rotational basis.For the successful candidate, we will provide excellent supervision, support and great opportunities for continued professional development.
