Quantity Surveyor job, Bristol Your new companyThe main activity of my client is Civil Engineering and Groundworks, working principally for the Major House Builders. Typically the works being Roads, Mains Drainage, Main Services, Lighting, Signage, Street Furniture, Substructures, Private Drainage, Domestic Services, Plot Externals, Estate Completions and other associated elements. Contracts are currently located in Bristol, Portishead, Weston Super Mare, Street, Paulton and Keynsham with some sites being multiple phases and for more than one client. The typical geographical operating area is within a travel time not exceeding one hour from Bristol however we do allow exceptions to this policy dependent on size of contract and client.Your new roleThe successful candidate would join a team of Quantity Surveyors, reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor. Typically the successful candidate would be responsible for three sites, however this can vary dependant on site locations and size. The position is multi-faceted, with key roles and responsibilities detailed on the following page. The successful candidate would be required to liaise and work closely with all other departments within the company. He /She must be commercially aware and would be a key member of a team working together to deliver profitable projects on program and in accordance with contract drawings &specification. He / She would be expected to undertake all their duties acting in the interests of the company, maintaining commercial and operational efficiency, whilst at all times considering and protecting the relationships with clients.Good communication and computer skills particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word are essential.Training will be provided for our various systems including our bespoke costing software.A sound knowledge of the Sewers for Adoption Specification and NHBC requirements in respect to our activities essential.The candidate would be ideally qualified to HNC / HND / Degree standard with the minimum CSCS accreditation being the Manager's Black Card. (Should the candidate not hold a CSCS to this accreditation the company will assist in obtaining it subject to certain criteria being met.)A competitive package will be offered which will include a company vehicle &fuel.As part of your duties sites will be allocated to you and specific site related responsibilities are:Regular visits to sites.Monitor drawing revisions to assess cost implications and agree findings with client. Complete site valuations on time and in accordance with the requirements of the client.Complete correct procedures for claiming of variations &site instructions, noting that it is Company procedure for additional works not to be authorised until the value has been agreed with the client and an order raised.Review any Contra Charges issued by the client and dispute where applicable.Seven days before valuations become due for payment contact the client to ensure payment has been certified, should this not be the case, investigate reasons why and take necessary action.Weekly review of Income Report for the allocated sites, updating comments as necessary.Completion of monthly Cost / Valuation reports.Completion of quarterly Material on Site lists.Attending Pre-Contract and site meetings as required by the Client or ourselves.Apply for retention releases following confirmation that the request should be made from the Technical Director or his Assistant.Following a request from a Contracts Manager, the Technical Director or his/her Assistant for Sub-Contract to be placed, send out enquiries, place order and notify person making the request the details of the Sub-Contractor appointed to complete the works.On application make payments for measured work to Sub-Contractors to ensure payments are made on time or notification sent informing the Sub-Contractor the payment is in dispute and the reason why.On application make payments for measured work to Sub-Contractors to ensure payments are made on time or notification sent informing the Sub-Contractor the payment is in dispute and the reason why.On application for a retention release from a Sub-Contractor, with the sum being confirmed by our accounts department and the Technical Director has accepted the works are to the correct standard with no latent defects arrange for payment to be made or notification sent to the Sub-Contractor stating the reason why the request has not been authorised.Monitor total contract expenditure for CBR &Material Testing, Jetting &CCTV of drainage.Assist buying department with information / budget for specialist purchases.Assisting with tenders.Deal with all phone calls, correspondence, email &enquiries relating to your job function.Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
