We are seeking to enhance our research portfolio in the areas of plant (epi)genomics, population genomics, and/or soil metagenomics, with potential for translation to agricultural systems, including crop breeding and disease management. Applications are invited from excellent scholars, who are familiar with the latest developments in single-molecule real-time (SMRT) DNA sequencing and have demonstrable experience with multiple DNA sequencing applications, such as genomic assemblies, transcriptomic analysis (mRNA-seq), methylome analysis (Bisulphite-seq or SMRT-seq), chromatin-immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq), genome-wide association mapping studies, or (meta)genomic profiling of microbial communities. Candidates should have excellent bioinformatic and computational skills. You will interact with the bio-informatics hub at the University of Sheffield (). You should have a background that aligns with existing expertise in P3 and more broadly in the Department (e.g. molecular plant biology, plant genetics, population genetics, plant-microbe interactions, soil biology), and have experience in designing and carrying out ‘wet lab’ experiments for next-generation DNA sequencing purposes. You will have a PhD in the area of plant biology, soil microbiology, or plant population genetics (or equivalent experience). You will have a record of high quality (collaborative) research publications about advanced functional (epi)genomics and/or transcriptomics of plants and/or microbes and a knowledge of relevant systems, policies, legislation and quality standards. You will also have the ability to analyse and develop creative approaches to problem solving with an appreciation of longer-term implications., and the ability to assess and organise resources, and plan and progress work activities.
