Assistant Manager Job DescriptionJob Title: Assistant Manager Responsibleto:BranchManager. Also receives instruction from Retail Development Manager and memo’s issued by Head Office. Responsiblefor: Sales Assistants  Objective: To support and work with the Branch Manager in ensuring the application by all members of staff of company policy and procedures, to maximise sales potential and to build an excellent customer facing team. It is the role of the Assistant Manager to support and work very closely with the Manager in running a successful shop and fulfilling duties listed below. Main duties of Assistant Manager: Attitude-          Enthusiastic and willing to carry out established and new working practises-          Eager to better their shop performance – a can do attitude to making on-going improvements. -          Thinks, acts and speaks positively -          A capacity for hard work -          A high level of integrity and trustworthy -          Bringing initiative to the job to attain short and long term goals -          Motivates the team and creates a positive atmosphere  Leadership -          Practices the principles and techniques taught to staff-          Sets a high standard of performance for themselves and the team-          Notices immediately when an individual and/or team is performing below the required standard and takes immediate action with the Manager-          Is a skilled trainer and developer of people-          Takes great pride in the team’s and individual achievements and works to create a positive and fun atmosphere  Communication -          Ensures members of staff are fully briefed on all relevant matters and follows up to make sure these are fully understood -          Ensures there is clear and effective communication with the Retail Development Manager and the Office and responds to all Memos/requests promptly-          Understands that the more involved staff are in the performance of the shop, the more they will want to contribute to its success  Training -          Continually evaluates training needs of staff-          Understands and follows the effect training cycle of EXPLAIN > SHOW > DO > APPLY-          Gives constructive feedback-          Encourages, by leadership, everyone to work hard and develop themselves -          Works with the manager and liaises with Retail Development Manager and identifies any additional support that might be required in training Delegation -          Delegates in order to develop others-          Understands that delegation does not mean abdication and responsibility of all tasks remains with the Manager and Assistant Manager Organisation-          Allocates sufficient time to achieve a high standard of organisation-          Ensures enough time is spent revising managerial paperwork -          Is first class organiser Administration -          Ensures that all recording and reporting procedures are correctly and fully implemented-          Ensures that all accounting and end of week procedures are correctly adhered to and reports any discrepancies  Objectives -          Fully briefed on all objectives and goals and work closely with Manager to obtain them-          Supports Manager in achieving objectives within deadlines-          Ensures goals given to shop staff are reasonable and fully understood-          Understands and achieves weekly and monthly targets such as sales, returns % Monitoring-          Assists Manager in reviewingstaffing hours -          Spends some time once a month completing a structured assessment of the branch-          Ensures that control documents are completed fully and accurately (i.e. temperature recording etc.) and acts immediately on any deviation from requirements Reporting-          All relevant matters are reported fully to Manager and during branch visits, or via phone/email-          Is fully prepared for Assistant Manager’s meeting with Shop performance figures and is ready to discuss if asked First Impressions-          Maintains a high standard of appearance and personal hygiene for all staff (uniforms, hair)-          Maintaining a high standard of branch hygiene and general organisation-          Retains standards of quality and controls quality of all products for sale-          Ensures product displays are creative, eye catching and well maintained-          Monitors the manners of all staff in approaching and handling customers  Customer Service -          Understands and appreciates why the customer is the most important person in the company  -          Leads by example with exceptional customer service at all times and actively promotes this to staff -          Willingly works with all staff to improve customer service Displays -          Fully understands the impact of eye catching and attractive displays -          Creates displays for seasonal and product promotions and motivates a team effort amongst staff-          Demonstrates a sound knowledge of product display principles and ensures staff maintain display standards-          Effective use of “hot spots” to maximise sales potential -          Substandard products are identified and removed from display immediately -          Appreciates the importance of regularly checking the display from the customer point of view, and ensure all staff are trained to do this  Selling -          Seeks to increase average customer spend by maximising sales opportunity-          Understands the importance of sound product and price knowledge and ensures a very high standard of knowledge within the sales team-          Supporting enthusiastically all promotions and new products -          Leads by example in all upselling and offering alternatives   Complaints Handling  -          ensures all staff adhere to the complaints reporting procedure Ordering -          Understands the sales can only be maximised by having the correct range of products available at the correct time of day, and this is directly determined by the ordering.-          Willingly tackles objective of maximising sales whilst controlling returns, and ensures assistant manager is fully trained to do so-          Constantly observes and reviews sales trends and holidays that may need to be taken into account when ordering -          Ensures all staff are fully trained to take special orders Safe and Hygienic Work Practices-          Adheres toall procedures in the Company Policy on Health and Safety at Work-          Ensures all staff understand and co-operate in the areas of health and safety, hygiene, fire drill, accidents and accident prevention. -          sets the highest of standard with branch hygiene, personal hygiene and Healthy and Safety Maintenance and Repairs-          Fully aware of health and safety standards that apply and ensures that any repairs or maintenance affecting these standards are reported immediately-          Reports promptly any repairs and maintenance requests  Security -          Adheres toall procedures for ensuring the security of cash handling.  -          Adheres to all procedures regarding shop alarm, shop keys and
