Job DescriptionSchool Business Manager School/DirectorateAcross all SchoolsSectionSchool Administration TeamJob TitleSchool BusinessManagerReports ToHead of SchoolGradeSAP 2 Principal AccountabilitiesAs a member of the School Executive Team, the post holder will assist and support the Head of School and Associate Heads of School in the effective leadership and management of the School in order that a high quality Student Experience is delivered.  The post holder will be the primary interface between the School and the Univeristy services, managing the organisation and delivery of all administrative and other non-academic services for and on behalf of the Head of School and Associate Heads. Key TasksTo support the Head of School and Associate Heads in the development and delivery of School plans. The post holder will take responsibility for drafting sections of the School Plan and for managing the implementation and monitoring of its key objectives  Work with the Head of School to develop a collaborative, collegiate and inclusive culture to engage all staff fully with the University’s Strategic Framework and Key Performance Indicators and relevant School plans which underpin this.  To understand the basis of the University’s academic and financial planning process in order to provide advice to the Head of School and Associate Heads particularly in relation to new initiatives, working with the Human Resource, Strategic Planning and Finance Business Partners as appropriate. To develop familiarity with, and facilitate the smooth running of, corporate administrative systems in the School and to ensure that the needs of the School are articulated with the development of central and corporate systems.  To support the Head of School in the development of appropriate admin organisational and management structures to support School development, to aid effective decision making and to ensure appropriate governance.  To raise the Schools’ profiles, visibility and standing through active engagement, by promoting better marketing of services and expertise and the publicising of achievements in collaboration with CMRA and other University Services. Undertaking projects, research and investigations in support of the Head of School producing reports and correspondence as appropriate and to support the development of initiatives and strategy.  To be an advocate for the University, working in partnership with external stakeholders in order to achieve success in joint venturesand deliver the strategic goals of teaching, research and enterprise whilst building external networks. To take a lead role on initiatives to work co-operatively with Professional Departments to bring together practices across Schools into standardised procedures and shared use of facilities and resources etc and take forward new developments and to act as a knowledgeable interface between all Academic and Professional departments. To manage and utilise resources available, advise on resource costs by undertaking cost/benefit modelling to maximum efficiency and effectiveness in accordance with the appropriate guidelines and procedures.   To ensure adherence to University Financial Regulations in purchasing and expenditure activities undertaken by the School.  To recruit, manage, train and appraise professional services staff as agreed with the Head of School in accordance with employment policies & procedures.  To establish with Heads of School a range of committees, task groups, fora, etc that can be supported by Support staff including the provision of procedural advice and follow-up action. To ensure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements and sustainability initiatives for the School. To abide by the provisions of Data Protection legislation in the handling of staff and student data and to advise accordingly on this and on the Freedom of Information Act Undertake other University and School responsibilities as the Head of School may require.  MiscellaneousTo act in a professional manner at all times and maintain confidentiality of information.   Maintain appropriate awareness of and work effectively within the University’s policies and procedures, participating in appropriate processes, i.e. Performance Development Review, continuing professional development. Act in support of the University’s Health, Safety and Environment policy by working safely and following the procedures and codes of practice derived to protect you and others. Adhere to the University’s Equality and Diversity policy for staff and students and operate in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. Willingness to take responsibility where necessary. Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above but will be consistent with the role and grade. ReviewThis is a description of the job at the time of issue.
