Overall purpose:Conduct R&D in areas of importance to dunnhumby's scientific capabilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesPrototype new algorithms and see them through to experimentation and implementationApply and discover statistical machine learning methods, and data and marketing sciences, especially to the problem domains of demand forecasting, customer analytics, and price and promotion optimizationDevelop mathematical modelsDevelop creative methods to address new and complex problemsPerform data analysisDocument and present analytical results to internal team and clientsDesired Skills and ExperienceThe successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Marketing Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or related fields. Candidates without the PhD degree will be considered if professional experience in these fields demonstrates great promise in conducting research in these fields.Professional experience conducting research and building solutions in problem domains such as data science, statistical machine learning, forecasting, and optimization.Professional experience working with retail data, such as market basket, loyalty, or panel data; or, with data sets from other domains of comparable complexity and size.Good understanding of statistics and mathematical methodologies used - especially in data science, machine learning, forecasting, regression, linear and non-linear models, time series, discrete and numerical optimization.Application of these techniques to classification, prediction, and high dimensional optimization.Good working knowledge of databases, including SQL, relational and non-relational data modelsAbility to develop algorithms performance tuned to the characteristics of massive data setsAbility to prototype solutions - using e.g. Excel, R. SAS, or Matlab, to facilitate testing of algorithms on large data sets.Good working knowledge of C++ or other object-oriented language, and experience with scientific programming.
