The role of the Secretary to GLAM is a senior administrative position leading the administrative operations of GLAM, acting as chief operating officer for the division, supporting the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (ARIS) in providing leadership to its cognate group of departments. GLAM incorporates the Botanic Gardens and Arboretum, the Bodleian Library, and the four University Museums, Pitt Rivers Museum, the Museum of the History of Science, the Natural History Museum and the Ashmolean Museum.  Together the six institutions attract over 3 million visitors to the University Collections, provide support for national and international researchers and provide support for education from school age through to retired participants including undergraduate and graduate students of the University. There are over 800 staff within GLAM and an overall budget of approximately £70m that includes a diverse set of income streams. The nature of the GLAM requires an understanding of the institutions within a higher-education setting including public engagement and more broadly commercial activities. The role demands a creative and proactive approach in support of divisional objectives, comprehensive engagement with financial and strategic planning, and oversight of administrative systems and processes.
