We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care.As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services.  Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.This post, based at Gartnavel General Hospital Site in Glasgow, provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for a suitably experienced and motivated medical laboratory professional who is able to work in a busy and changing environment.We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic individual with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to become part of a team of Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientists. You will be responsible for supervision and management of the day-to-day activities within the Clinical Services department and will support the Clinical Laboratory Managers in maintaining and developing the Clinical Services Laboratories of the Transfusion Centre. The successful candidate will require to be forward thinking, resourceful and imaginative with the drive and self-motivation to relish and respond to challenge.The Clinical Services department provides a quality service in areas such as Reference Red Cell Serology, Platelet Immunology and Blood component Dispatch to hospitals in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.The laboratories provide blood banking services to the Gartnavel Hospital Site which includes the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. The laboratory is also the SNBTS National Reference centre and provides antibody quantification across the service. The laboratory operates 24/7/365 and the successful candidate must participate in the laboratory shift working roster.Candidates must be a current member of the Health and Care Professions Council and possess an MSc, Higher Specialist diploma or equivalent level of knowledge with proven experience working in a Transfusion Laboratory as a Biomedical Scientist 1. Further qualifications in Transfusion Science are desirable. Candidates who are currently studying towards post graduate qualifications will also be considered.The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check.
