We are looking for an experienced, professional and enthusiastic senior technical business analyst to join our busy team working across four product areas:  iSite – our multi-tenanted headless CMS used by 300+ projects across the BBC User-generated content uploader – initially for CBBC with MVP launch in Autumn. Search API for PIPS data – integrated in iBroadcast 3 for imminent launch. A clips search – for News users and in very early development. The aim of the role is to understand, document and communicate business requirements for the editorial services we are developing and maintaining. This will involve working collaboratively with stakeholders who use or would like to use our systems and other internal development teams whose products we are dependent on. This will require analysis of current system behaviour and an interest in technical aspects of business analysis. This role requires a good knowledge of working in an agile engineering team delivering large-scale, multi-tenanted web applications and APIs using TDD & BDD. The team consists of 5 front end developers, 7 engineers, a test engineer, UX designer, product and project manager. The ideal candidate will enjoy working very closely with engineers, understanding and shaping requirements, getting features dev-ready and facilitating their development. It’s a senior role due to the variety and complexity of the products we build and support. Work closely with the Product Manager, development team, UX designer and distributed stakeholders to collect, understand, organise and document the business requirements (both functional and non-functional) for products, projects and features translating these into epics and user stories. Work with technical leads to define user stories in planning and facilitate the task breakdown with the team to get them dev-ready (we use Kanban). Work with the test engineer to define BDD acceptance tests, ensuring the delivered solution meets the business requirements and quality criteria. Facilitate decision making with the stakeholders and the iSite team. This will include conversations about scope, about the detail of individual requirements and bigger picture approaches to the solution, and about providing clear options. Collaborate and interact with the iSite and other development teams, contributing to the definition and delivery of the product and supporting processes/workflows to a high standard within agreed timescales and within budget. Where appropriate gather, analyse and report usage data or other such relevant data in support of measuring the performance of the product. Understand and help to maintain vision across the whole team - be aware of the end goal for the solution and work towards it. Act as the customer advocate. When appropriate, evaluate and incorporate user research and communicate & present requirements/changes to stakeholders (technical and nontechnical) and the iSite team. Communicate technical issues to stakeholders in a way that makes the business impact clear. Be able to communicate project issues so there is an understanding of the problem and options for how it would be solved.Essential Deep knowledge of business and data analysis tools and techniques such as requirements engineering, structured analysis and design, process mapping and component business modelling, business process re-engineering Knowledge of using RESTful APIs to understand current system behaviour Able to understand data structures such as JSON/XML Proven communication skills both written and verbal using a variety of methods, the ability to get the message across and relative to the audience Manages professional relationships, listens, encourages discussion and promotes two-way communication Comprehensive knowledge of project lifecycle delivery as a business analyst in a technical environment Comprehensive knowledge of technical product management and development methodologies, underpinned by strong software design principles Experience of a variety of project management methods both iterative and waterfall, applied in business to business, or business to consumer solutions Ability to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts and be able to explore them systematically Strong planning and organisational skills, able to juggle competing priorities and take the appropriate course of action Has high levels of resilience, able to take input and run with a task, works on own initiative, can direct others Desirable ECBA Level 1 and/or CCBA Level 2 or equivalent experience BCS CBAP or equivalent formal qualification in business analysis Considerable experience gained within a media or similar multi-national organisation Problem-solving, with both tactical and strategic thinking Workshop design and facilitation Commercial focus, proven influencing, negotiation and conflict management skills with the ability to engage at all levels Subject matter expert in a technology area View full job description
