Tapestry Solutions supports 85 defense, commercial and government customers from over 50 US locations and nine countries, including multiple forward operating bases in Afghanistan.Position Title and Level:  Software Engineer IIPosition Summary:The UK office hosts a small team of Project Managers, Functional Analysts, System Analysts and Software Engineers undertaking software implementation projects in the UK and mainland Europe along with providing sustainment support to systems in live operation in these countries and the Middle East.This is a new post to expand the software development team in the UK office to meet the demands of new and existing programs. The post holder will work alongside a highly experienced software engineer in a team of two, with minimal supervision for routine work and more support for more challenging assignments.  You will assist with the development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems. You will develop and maintain code, and integrate software components into a fully functional software system. You will assist with test procedures to ensure software system requirements are met. A key element of the role is to problem-solve and troubleshoot software and middleware issues in live production systems.Essential Functions:•Develop, document, maintain and unit test code by utilizing software development environments and programming languages in order to implement designs and satisfy allocated requirements.•Develop, document and maintain designs for software consistent with the defined architecture and requirements/regulations by applying established methods and practices.•Perform problem-solving analysis to troubleshoot software defects, proposing solutions to problems.•Support the development, documentation and maintenance of software architectures.•Support software requirements development by performing analysis, preparing flow and logic diagrams and performing trade studies. This includes supporting interface definition, and participating in requirements reviews.•Perform troubleshooting of operational and integration issues. Maintain and analyze performance data and provide advice on potential issues.Typical Education and/or Experience Qualifications:Tapestry Solutions values experience as well as academic qualifications and welcomes applications from all candidates with the required skills. Typically, we would expect the minimum needed for this role to be a BSc Degree or Master’s Degree with experience in software development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or chemistry.The essential knowledge, skills and experience needed for this role are:•  Java/J2EE development experience, including de-bugging and performance testing•  SQL•  Linux•  Good communication skills, including professionally interacting directly with customers•  Ability to problem solve under pressure in software and middleware•  A strong interest in new software technologies and continuing to learn and develop skills in theseIn addition, the following knowledge and skills would be desirable, but could be learnt in post:•  Use of Docker or other deployment tools•  Use of Maven or other build tools•  Oracle•  JBOSS/Tomcat Server•  Web service development•  Agile software development practices•  Working with virtual machines.•  Working with Software repositories such as SVN and GIT•  Servicemix/JBOSS Fuse View full job description
